This year’s CU Public Conference, organised in the context of the 2024 European Ceramic Days, will welcome a panel of distinguished guests to discuss how to build a stronger #Europe considering the future of #manufacturing from a whole value chain approach. Against the background of Enrico Letta and Mario Draghi’s reports on the single market and EU #competitiveness, and also taking into account the calls resulting from the Antwerp Declaration of 20 February as addressed through the announcement by Commission President von der Leyen on 18 July of “A new plan for Europe’s sustainable prosperity and competitiveness” reflecting notably the needs to “make business easier and deepen our single market”, particularly for SMEs and to build a Clean Industrial Deal, this conference presents a timely opportunity to delve into the future of EU manufacturing taking a whole value chain approach and with a focus on industrial #SMEs. The European Parliament has just approved the College of Commissioners for the second mandate of President Ursula von der Leyen for 2024-2029. In her opening remarks, the President of the Commission declared that the European Commission will focus on a competitive compass made up by three priorities – innovation, decarbonisation, and economic security. The European ceramic industry welcomes this plan, and calls for the Commission to: - Engage in effective support for research and innovation for SME-oriented and heterogeneous industrial sectors, such as ceramics; - ensure secure, stable and affordable energy supply in the EU for the energy intensive consumers; - work on an EU climate policy for manufacturing, starting from a reform of the EU ETS to incentivise growth while promoting decarbonisation; - promote free and fair trade, to restore a global level playing field against unfair trade practices and overcapacities. 👉 Discover our priorities and #PolicyRecommendations in the Ceramic Manifesto 24-29 https://bit.ly/3R0ubXp

🌲 Why are #forests so important? 🤔 Did you know that…❓ Only a small amount of the felled material actually ends up in long-term use. The remaining amount is used for short-term processes, such as pulp & paper production and energy generation, resulting in immediate to short-term CO₂ emissions.
