PHARMECO Project officially launched! 🌿💊 We’re thrilled to announce the launch of the groundbreaking PHARMECO project, supported by the Innovative Health Initiative (IHI) Joint Undertaking and its members. This ambitious initiative aims to trigger a green revolution in the manufacturing of medicines by implementing greener technologies and processes, embedding sustainability principles at each stage of production, and standardizing sustainability assessment approaches across the sector. Key goals include: 🌍 Integrating Sustainable-by-Design (SSbD) practices. 💡 Scaling green technologies for industrial applications. 🔍 Using digital tools to drive sustainability in the pharmaceutical industry. CESPE will lead this alliance of 31 esteemed international partners: AbbVie, AIMPLAS · Technological Institute of Plastics, AstraZeneca, Benkei, BIOTOOLOMICS LIMITED, Boehringer Ingelheim, CPI, CULTZYME , Ghent University, GSK, Johnson & Johnson, LifeClean International AB, Loughborough University, Medtronic, Merck Group, Microinnova Engineering GmbH, Novo Nordisk, Pfizer, Radboud University, RCPE - Research Center Pharmaceutical Engineering GmbH, RISE Research Institutes of Sweden, RIVM National Institute for Public Health and the Environment, Sanofi, Servier, SFE Process, SwiftPharma, Technische Universität Berlin, UCB, University of Graz, VTU Group. Seven Ghent University research groups, will be actively involved across all PHARMECO workstreams: Sustainable Systems Engineering group (Prof. Jo Dewulf), Epidemiology of Chronic Diseases unit (Prof. Delphine De Smedt), the Biovism Lab (Prof. Jan Verwaeren), the Bionamix Lab (Prof. Paul Van Liedekerke), Synthesis, Bioresources, and Bio-organic Chemistry group (SynBioC) (Prof. Christian Stevens), Pharmaceutical Engineering Research Group (Prof. Ashish Kumar) and the Laboratory of Pharmaceutical Process Analytical Technology (Prof. Thomas De Beer).
