About us

CICOPA is the International organisation of industrial and service cooperatives unifying, representing and serving 68,000 enterprises employing 4 million persons worldwide. Founded in 1947, its 46 members in 30 countries are representative organisations of cooperatives from graphic design, construction, social services, renewable energy production, industrial production, education, etc.. Cooperatives put fairness and equality at the heart of the enterprise, creating meaningful work that allows people to answer to their needs. They are democratically managed by the ‘one member, one vote’ rule: members share equal voting rights regardless of the amount of capital they put into the enterprise.

•Solidarity Dinner | ICA Global Conference 2024• What does cooperation among cooperatives look like? Though geographically on two extreme ends, Sangitaben from the Megha Indigenous Women Farmers Cooperative in Gujarat met with leaders of the Retail co-op in the #UK, sharing her vision for the cooperative’s growth while listening to agricultural practices in the UK to understand a global marketplace. Parallelly, Ashwiniben from our SEWA Sangini Childcare Cooperative reflected on the post-COVID impact on childcare centers in Gujarat, initiating discussions with childcare co-op leaders from the UK and how they have adapted to challenges - similar or otherwise. Conversations like these, unfolding on a crisp Delhi evening, carried a shared determination to make 2025 a transformative year for cooperatives. Cooperation among cooperatives is a cornerstone principle of the cooperative movement. As the International Cooperative Alliance (ICA) Global Conference launched the celebration of 2025 as the Year of Cooperatives, we hosted a Solidarity Dinner at the India International Centre (IIC). The gathering aimed to unite cooperative leaders from India and abroad, sector experts, and SEWA sisters to exchange insights and strengthen our shared commitment to #cooperativevalues.
