InnovaWood network, represented by Florence KUIJL and Eva Čeh, recently visited the EcoReFibre project coordinator at SLU - Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences. While InnovaWood is actively supporting the communications and dissemination efforts for the #EcoReFibre project, this visit provided a great opportunity to catch-up in person with the project coordinator, Stergios Adamopoulos, and also to conduct interviews with the researchers on campus, Percy Alao and changling Xu, who investigate the different phases of fibreboard recycling processes. 🔬 🔍 We are grateful to the #SLU team for their warm welcome, helping us create interesting content for the project’s communications. 𝗝𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗻𝗲́𝗲𝘀 𝗦𝗰𝗶𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗳𝗶𝗾𝘂𝗲𝘀 𝗱𝘂 𝗚𝗗𝗥 𝗦𝗰𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲𝘀 𝗱𝘂 𝗕𝗼𝗶𝘀 : 𝘂𝗻𝗲 𝗲́𝗱𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟰 𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗵𝗲 𝗲𝗻 𝘀𝗰𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗲𝘁 𝗲𝗻 𝗲́𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲𝘀 🎉 Du 20 au 22 novembre à Nantes, nous avons eu le plaisir d’accueillir les 13e Journées Scientifiques du GDR Sciences du Bois, qui ont réuni plus de 250 personnes. 𝗥𝗲𝘁𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝘀𝘂𝗿 𝗹𝗲𝘀 𝘁𝗲𝗺𝗽𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿𝘁𝘀 𝗱𝗲 𝗰𝗲 𝗯𝗲𝗹 𝗲́𝘃𝗲́𝗻𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 : 📌 𝗣𝗼𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝘀𝗰𝗶𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗳𝗶𝗾𝘂𝗲𝘀 : Près de 80 présentateurs/rices ont offert un panorama complet des recherches en cours, partagé avec 300 étudiant·es de l’ESB et de nombreux partenaires industriels. 9 posters ont été récompensés par un prix. A month of November all about sustainability projects! In Rimini, to present the results of the #FurnCIRCLE survey about the circularity maturity level of the furniture industry during ECOMONDO - ITALIAN EXHIBITION GROUP, on behalf of all the Consortium FederlegnoArredo, EFIC - European Furniture Industries Confederation and AMBIT - Living Spaces Cluster And again in Rimini, for the presentation of EcoReFibre, the Horizon project dedicated to the regeneration of MDF panel fibres. In Brussels, to continue work on the definition and development of an innovative training path dedicated to the 𝐂𝐢𝐫𝐜𝐮𝐥𝐚𝐫 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐌𝐚𝐧𝐚𝐠𝐞𝐫 for the furniture sector, with the Partners of the #ErasmusplusCirCLER project. The Italian Partners FederlegnoArredo | ASLAM Formazione | Politecnico di Milano | CSM - dID are cooperating to reflect the needs of the Italian furniture sector into this ambitious project! And finally in Florence, for the launch of the Horizon #REvolve project, which involves 9 European companies, as well as Associations, Clusters, Universities and Research Centres, to develop tools and events to foster the circular transition of the European furniture industry. ♻ Reuse, Reclaim, Recycle #Circularity approaches to reduce and valorise waste wood have been explored today at the Wood Policy and Innovation Conference. ➡ Session hosted by Horizon project EcoReFibre, and moderated by EPF Technical Director Kris Wijnendaele and InnovaWood network Business Manager Oliver Jancke 🗣 Speakers included Mark Irle (Senior Researcher, Ecole Supérieure du Bois), Emma Romero Brey (Architect, Finsa), Geert Coudenys (R&D Director, Unilin Panels), Jacinto Segui Mendez (Collaborative Development Director, Finsa), Kristin Nore (Innovation Manager) & Wendy Wuyts (CRO Omtre) 💡 Discussions tackled post-consumer wood in Europe in terms of qualities and future supply, Superpan Tech (a high-performance board for passive buildings from #recycled wood), #MDF recycling, industrial pilot installation, ZICLICK (a plug & go design system as a service), renewing buildings with industrial components, as well as business opportunities for the #circular economy. This session was a great opportunity to exchange on advancements, in line with EU-funded projects such as EcoReFibre and CISUFLO.

What does collaboration mean in EU projects? Beyond just the happy faces in the picture, it is a rollercoaster ride trying to bring the research and innovation efforts within projects to fruition. But, more importantly, a much more challenging task is to explore synergies with other like-minded EU-funded projects to expand the ambit of project impact. EU-funded projects on sustainability typically aim at creating an enabling environment to support the transition to a #circulareconomy across sectors through their research and innovation efforts. While the projects are funded by the EU, they have a global ambition to disseminate their project results beyond the bloc. Horizon Europe funding for research and innovation projects in the EU are a resolute step in that direction. This was the intention behind the EU projects workshop organised yesterday by ISWA International Solid Waste Association on behalf of the RECLAIM project, and Wood2Wood Project, which also involved GRINNER Project and EcoReFibre for a knowledge sharing session on their technical innovations and how it could help each of the four projects individually and collectively achieve impact. The workshop titled "From Waste to Resource: Innovative Approaches to Material Recovery and Sustainable Waste Management", saw four above mentioned projects highlight their technical expertise in material recovery across different waste streams, like solid waste, plastic waste, electronic waste and wood waste. GRINNER Project representatives Simonetta Cota and Andrea Centurioni spoke about tackling battery related fites and improving E-waste management through #AI and #Robotics. Wood2Wood Project representatives Kostas Chatziioannou and Vasiliki Tzelepi delved into their wood-to-wood cascade upcycling valorisation approach. EcoReFibre representatives focused on how to recycle wood waste back into fibreboards and novel building products. and RECLAIM project representative Michail Maniadakis illuminated the processes behind developing an AI-powered portable robotic material recovery in a box with advanced imaging, robotics, state of the art grippers, and a recycling data game. #ClosingTheLoop for a circular economy in the fibreboard industry in Europe demands research and cross-sector collaboration throughout all phases of the project. Part of the EcoReFibre Communication team, Florence KUIJL and Eva Čeh, got a glimpse of this work during their visit to SLU - Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences, where they met with Stergios Adamopoulos, the project coordinator.
