Imagine you want to erase your personal data! At EDPO, we act as a bridge. You can send us your request, and we’ll acknowledge it, forward it to the company, and ensure they process it as required by the GDPR. Check out Diego Mommaerts' explanation on this!
Imagine this: you're using a service provided by a company based outside the EU. One day, you read in the press that this company is involved in a major scandal, and you decide you want them to erase all the personal data they have on you. What do you do? First, you check their privacy policy. If they comply with the GDPR’s Article 27, they’ll have listed the contact details of their #EURepresentative. That’s where we come in. At EDPO (European Data Protection Office), we act as that bridge. You can send us your request—something like, "I want this company to delete all the data they have on me." We’ll acknowledge it, pass it to the company, and make sure they process your request as required by the #GDPR. Once it’s done, we’ll confirm that your data has been erased. This is just one example of how we make data protection practical, ensuring your rights are respected no matter where a company is based.

“Apple has made headlines by pulling its most advanced data security tool for UK customers. It is removing Advanced Data Protection (ADP) after the Home Office asked for the right to be able to access data which it is applied to - something even Apple itself cannot currently do. Rather than comply with that request, on Friday the tech giant said it would halt new UK sign-ups to the tool and remove existing user access at a later date. The move has prompted criticism of the UK government's actions - but also confusion about what protections remain for UK Apple customers.” #Privacy #GDPR #dataprotection #AppleData #UKWatchdog #AppleUK Subscribe to EDPO's newsletter here: https://lnkd.in/dwK8sde *This article was not written by EDPO. “Most drivers are aware that today’s cars collect – and share – data about all manner of things. But there’s a general ignorance about the specifics that could be cause for alarm. Research conducted by Uswitch last year revealed that 72 per cent of motorists were unaware of cars collecting data related to how and when they are driven; 67 per cent didn’t realise that data pertaining to their use of GPS and infotainment could be gathered; 54 per cent were in the dark that some cars amass data on speed; and 53 per cent that route history is also accessible. Even a car’s current location can be tracked and stored; something that 44 per cent of drivers are apparently not wise to.” #Privacy #GDPR #dataprotection #AutomotiveData #DataInCars Subscribe to EDPO's newsletter here: https://lnkd.in/dwK8sde *This article was not written by EDPO. “Apple is taking the unprecedented step of removing its highest level data security tool from customers in the UK, after the government demanded access to user data. Advanced Data Protection (ADP) means only account holders can view items such as photos or documents they have stored online through a process known as end-to-end encryption. But earlier this month the UK government asked for the right to see the data, which currently not even Apple can access. Apple did not comment at the time but has consistently opposed creating a ‘backdoor’ in its encryption service, arguing that if it did so, it would only be a matter of time before bad actors also found a way in. Now the tech giant has decided it will no longer be possible to activate ADP in the UK. It means eventually not all UK customer data stored on iCloud - Apple's cloud storage service - will be fully encrypted.” #Privacy #GDPR #dataprotection #Apple #UKGovernment Subscribe to EDPO's newsletter here: https://lnkd.in/dwK8sde *This article was not written by EDPO. “Upcoming rules for developers and users of General Purpose Artificial Intelligence (GPAI), models that can perform many tasks such as ChatGPT, Google Gemini and picture application Midjourney, have been pushed back by at least one month, according to a new European Commission timeline. The Code of Practice on General Purpose Artificial Intelligence (CoP), which aims to help companies comply with the EU’s AI Act, includes transparency and copyright-related rules, risk assessment, and mitigation measures, is now set to come out in May at the earliest. The delay comes as the chairs of the different working groups tasked with drafting the code requested additional time to ensure that the latest document reflects the feedback they received from stakeholders, and to make it legally robust, Euronews understands from sources involved in the matter.” #Privacy #GDPR #dataprotection #AICodeofPractice #AIPractice #CoP Subscribe to EDPO's newsletter here: https://lnkd.in/dwK8sde *This article was not written by EDPO. “‘No new regulation coming from DG Connect in the next five years,’ Robert Viola, director-general of DG Connect, said during a conference held by trade association DigitalEurope in Brussels. DG Connect is the digital policy arm of the European Commission, so such a statement in a room full of policy wonks was met with a mix of surprised gasps and doubtful smiles. It is, however, in line with the European Commission's work program for 2025 and channels the theme of competitiveness many panelists discussed during the day. Many speakers shared a similar take on both the diagnosis and the remedies. According to DigitalEurope, only 13% of European companies use artificial intelligence. There is a 30% gross domestic product gap between the EU and the U.S., and half the difference of productivity growth between two is due to slow uptake of technology. DigitalEurope quantified the yearly regulatory burden at 200 billion euros. #Privacy #GDPR #dataprotection #EuropeanTech #DGConnect #DigitalPolicy Subscribe to EDPO's newsletter here: https://lnkd.in/dwK8sde *This article was not written by EDPO. “The Trump administration's fast-moving efforts to limit the size of the U.S. federal bureaucracy, primarily through the recently minted Department of Government Efficiency, are raising privacy and data security concerns among current and former officials across the government, particularly as the administration scales back positions charged with privacy oversight. Efforts to limit the independence of a host of federal agencies through a new executive order — including the independence of the Federal Trade Commission and Securities and Exchange Commission — are also ringing alarm bells among civil society and some legal experts.” #Privacy #GDPR #dataprotection #US #TrumpAdministration #AmericanData Subscribe to EDPO's newsletter here: https://lnkd.in/dwK8sde *This article was not written by EDPO. “Lawmakers on the European Parliament’s Internal Market and Consumer Protection Committee (IMCO) voted on Tuesday to keep working on liability rules for artificial intelligence products, despite the European Commission’s intention to withdraw the proposal. Coordinators from the different political groups on the committee will push to keep the AI Liability Directive on the political agenda, a spokesperson for the Parliament confirmed. The Legal Affairs committee, who leads the Parliament's work on this topic, has not yet decided what to do, the spokesperson added. In the Commission’s 2025 work program, presented last week, the EU Executive said it plans to withdraw the AI Liability Directive because ‘no foreseeable agreement’ is expected on the proposal.” #Privacy #GDPR #dataprotection #AIDirective #AILiability #EUCommission Subscribe to EDPO's newsletter here: https://lnkd.in/dwK8sde *This article was not written by EDPO.
