Roma access to employment is a test of Europe’s commitment to #inclusion. Are we passing it? ✅ This question took centre stage at European Roma Grassroots Organisations (ERGO) Network’s annual policy conference, where we delved into employment challenges and the progress of the EU Roma Strategic Framework. Our Policy Coordinator Julie Pascoët guided an insightful discussion alongside these incredible panellists: 🟣 Isabela Mihalache (European Roma Grassroots Organisations (ERGO) Network), 🟣 Isak Skenderi (Voice of Roma, Ashkali and Egyptians), 🟣 Mustafa Jakupov (Reporting and Information Centre on Antigypsyism), 🟣 Danijel Ćubelić (European Coalition of Cities against Racism - ECCAR). A big 🙏 thank you to the European Roma Grassroots Organisations (ERGO) Network for bringing us together to advance Roma rights! ✍️ More: https://lnkd.in/e3NMxW3Q. #EU #Roma #AntiRacism

The voice of anti-racism in Europe
About us
ENAR is the only pan-European anti-racism network that combines advocacy for racial equality and facilitating cooperation among civil society anti-racism actors in Europe. The organisation was set up in 1998 by grassroots activists on a mission to achieve legal changes at European level and make decisive progress towards racial equality in all EU Member States. Since then, ENAR has grown and achieved a great deal. Our mission is to achieve full equality, solidarity and well-being for all in Europe. We want to allow all members of society, whatever their skin colour, ethnicity, sex, gender, religion, disability, age or sexual orientation, to participate and be included in society. Our take on this? We combat racism and discrimination based on colour, ethnicity, national origin, nationality, religion, culture, language or legal status. We envision a vibrant and inclusive society and economy that embrace equality and diversity and the benefits of a racism-free Europe.

It’s not an abstract concern – it’s happening right now. In less than 24 hours, the far-right, newly emboldened in this election cycle, successfully silenced a critical discussion on equality at the European Parliament. We are appalled by the European Parliament's decision to postpone a crucial workplace inclusion roundtable featuring Maboula Soumahoro, the founder of Black History Month #France and a visiting Columbia University professor. Following a targeted social media campaign led by the French far-right last week, the event has been delayed and is at risk of being cancelled entirely. The far-right's gains in the #EUelections2024 are not just a distant worry but a frightening reality. In less than a day, they successfully censored a vital conversation meant to advance inclusion. This blatant assault on the fight for equality within the EU is entirely unacceptable. We strongly condemn any and all decisions to bow to far-right pressure and stand in unwavering solidarity with Maboula Soumahoro. We cannot, and will not, allow the far-right to stifle the work of anti-racism advocates. It is time for the leaders of the European Parliament to face the truth and uphold their responsibility to protect equality and free, open dialogue at the heart of European democracy. ✍️ We cannot allow this to pass unnoticed. In the early 2000s, Portugal’s vocational courses were framed as a ‘solution’ for Black youth. In reality, they served as a state-sanctioned pipeline, steering racialised teenagers into precarious careers. ⤵️ This is yet another example of how colonial hierarchies persist long after regimes collapse. Rooted in white supremacy, Europe’s economic systems keep shutting racialised communities out and deepening the racial wealth gap. 📖 Discover how colonial legacies continue to shape Europe’s racial wealth gap in our latest report: https://lnkd.in/gBVnSKTP. #RacialJustice #WealthGap #AntiRacism

Following the milestone EU Anti-Racism Action Plan, states were urged to adopt National Action Plans Against Racism (NAPARs) by the end of 2022 – yet, many are still falling short. ❌ 🚨 To equip our network with the tools to demand action, we hosted a training for anti-racism activists on advocating for and monitoring NAPARs. 📌 Highlights included: ✅ A deep dive into the EU's anti-discrimination framework led by Nozizwe Dube. ✅ A panel on aligning anti-racism efforts across EU, national, and local levels, featuring the EU Anti-racism Coordinator Michaela Moua (she/her), Bernice Zarb (Human Rights Directorate) & the team of European Coalition of Cities against Racism - ECCAR. ✅ Hands-on sessions addressing monitoring techniques, advocacy strategies, and the realities of NAPARs across Europe. In a time of rising hostility against our communities, NAPARs hold the potential to dismantle structural racism with structural solutions. Let’s continue to push for frameworks that drive real change. #AntiRacism #Network

On paper, the recent EU Migration Pact claims to protect 👧🏽 unaccompanied children. In reality, it’s likely to put children at even more risk. ⚠️ We have joined 28 organisations to warn that the #EUMigrationPact fails to protect unaccompanied children at Europe's borders. Read our analysis and recommendations here: https://lnkd.in/e-UKmwv7. 🚨 The Pact's strong emphasis on tighter border controls is likely to lead to a more aggressive response to irregular crossings, including pushbacks. Its accelerated processes coupled with limited capacities and resources, risk failing to accurately identify unaccompanied children or their specific needs and vulnerabilities, or take into consideration their best interests. And it could allow for even more children to be held in detention, and for longer than before – in some cases, for up to six months. We’re calling for the EU and its member states to protect the rights of unaccompanied children are protected - in line with international refugee and human rights law - and create a #PactThatProtectsChildren. #Migration #EU #AntiRacism International Rescue Committee EU Kindernothilfe e.V. This week, our Chair Nyanchama Okemwa & team are at 📌 Web Summit, bringing racial justice perspectives to the world of #tech. In a few minutes, we are 👋🏽 taking the stage to discuss the potential risks of biased #AI algorithms arising from a lack of diversity in development teams. ❓ As the race for AI dominance intensifies, tech giants are investing billions in research and development. However, a concerning trend has emerged: many of these same companies are slashing or eliminating their DEI departments and initiatives. Excited to sit down with 🙏🏾 Joyann Boyce (InClued.ai), Moojan Asghari (Women in AI) & Muhammad Lila (Goodable)! #tech #AI #WebSummit2024 #antiracism #diversity #DEI
