We spoke to The Guardian about the European Commission’s dangerous decision to prioritise some forms of hatred while sidelining others. 📢 This move sends a ⚠️ chilling message, creating harmful hierarchies in the fight against racism and undermining the systemic change Europe desperately needs. ✍️ Jennifer Rankin for The Guardian: https://lnkd.in/eBj94RyJ. 👉🏾 Our full statement: https://lnkd.in/eDdvFuUG. #EU #AntiRacism

The voice of anti-racism in Europe
About us
ENAR is the only pan-European anti-racism network that combines advocacy for racial equality and facilitating cooperation among civil society anti-racism actors in Europe. The organisation was set up in 1998 by grassroots activists on a mission to achieve legal changes at European level and make decisive progress towards racial equality in all EU Member States. Since then, ENAR has grown and achieved a great deal. Our mission is to achieve full equality, solidarity and well-being for all in Europe. We want to allow all members of society, whatever their skin colour, ethnicity, sex, gender, religion, disability, age or sexual orientation, to participate and be included in society. Our take on this? We combat racism and discrimination based on colour, ethnicity, national origin, nationality, religion, culture, language or legal status. We envision a vibrant and inclusive society and economy that embrace equality and diversity and the benefits of a racism-free Europe.

Big news! 🥳 The European Parliament's Anti-Racism & Diversity Intergroup is officially back for another term – and we’re ready to fight for progress with bold, new MEPs by our side. 💪🏾 This autumn, we made it a 1️⃣ priority to advocate for ARDI’s comeback in the European Parliament: https://lnkd.in/eGmg5jBg. Why? Because Europe needs leadership that doesn’t just acknowledge racism but urgently acts to ⛓️💥 break it down – starting inside the institutions themselves. Here’s our 🔝 priorities for ARDI in the next 5 years: ✅ Standing up to racist pressure: As far-right parties gain ground across Europe, ARDI MEPs must form a strong progressive front, pushing back against racism at the heart of the European Parliament. ✅ Centring racialised voices: Through close collaboration with civil society allies and racialised communities, ARDI MEPs must continue to centre lived experiences and collective expertise in its work. ✅ Driving anti-racism policies: ARDI MEPs must lead the charge on stronger anti-racism legislation, push for enforcement of existing laws, and raise awareness of racism’s impact in Europe. Thank you 🙏🏾 to our incredible allies who stood with us to bring ARDI back! EAPN - European Anti Poverty Network, European Roma Grassroots Organisations (ERGO) Network, Human Rights Watch, Equinox: Racial Justice Initiative, Platform for Undocumented Migrants (PICUM), Jelena Jovanovic, ILGA-Europe, Quaker Council for European Affairs, and so many others! Let’s get to work.✊🏾 #ARDI #EP #EU

Out of the three EU coordinators leading the fight against racism, only two received upgraded political access this week. ⏫ The only position held by a racialised individual was shamefully left behind. 🚨 ❌ European Commission's decision sends a dangerous signal, creating hierarchies within anti-racism work and #undermining efforts to tackle systemic racism. By prioritising some forms of hatred while sidelining others, the Commission risks fragmenting the fight against racism and betraying the promises etched in the EU Anti-Racism Action Plan (2020–2025). ❌ As the voice of the European anti-racism movement, we demand that the European Commission treats all forms of racism with the urgency they deserve. Elevating the Anti-Racism Coordinator is the first step in demonstrating that tackling systemic racism is not just a symbolic gesture, but a genuine #priority. ⏰ We expect more from the Commission – it's time to act and deliver on its commitments to anti-racism. 🔗 Read our statement: https://lnkd.in/eDdvFuUG. #Racism #EU #Equality #Commission #Discrimination

The climate crisis isn't just about rising temperatures – it's about rising inequalities. 📉 By 2050, $9.2 trillion will need to be spent on climate mitigation and adaptation – yet racialised communities remain largely ❌ excluded from these investments. Systemic barriers to capital deny our communities the tools to 🌱 adapt, respond, and thrive. 📌 Discover how colonial legacies and structural racism continue to shape Europe’s wealth gap in our latest report: https://lnkd.in/etGSmJYR. #RacialJustice #WealthGap #AntiRacism #Climate

Roma access to employment is a test of Europe’s commitment to #inclusion. Are we passing it? ✅ This question took centre stage at European Roma Grassroots Organisations (ERGO) Network’s annual policy conference, where we delved into employment challenges and the progress of the EU Roma Strategic Framework. Our Policy Coordinator Julie Pascoët guided an insightful discussion alongside these incredible panellists: 🟣 Isabela Mihalache (European Roma Grassroots Organisations (ERGO) Network), 🟣 Isak Skenderi (Voice of Roma, Ashkali and Egyptians), 🟣 Mustafa Jakupov (Reporting and Information Centre on Antigypsyism), 🟣 Danijel Ćubelić (European Coalition of Cities against Racism - ECCAR). A big 🙏 thank you to the European Roma Grassroots Organisations (ERGO) Network for bringing us together to advance Roma rights! ✍️ More: https://lnkd.in/e3NMxW3Q. #EU #Roma #AntiRacism

It’s not an abstract concern – it’s happening right now. In less than 24 hours, the far-right, newly emboldened in this election cycle, successfully silenced a critical discussion on equality at the European Parliament. We are appalled by the European Parliament's decision to postpone a crucial workplace inclusion roundtable featuring Maboula Soumahoro, the founder of Black History Month #France and a visiting Columbia University professor. Following a targeted social media campaign led by the French far-right last week, the event has been delayed and is at risk of being cancelled entirely. The far-right's gains in the #EUelections2024 are not just a distant worry but a frightening reality. In less than a day, they successfully censored a vital conversation meant to advance inclusion. This blatant assault on the fight for equality within the EU is entirely unacceptable. We strongly condemn any and all decisions to bow to far-right pressure and stand in unwavering solidarity with Maboula Soumahoro. We cannot, and will not, allow the far-right to stifle the work of anti-racism advocates. It is time for the leaders of the European Parliament to face the truth and uphold their responsibility to protect equality and free, open dialogue at the heart of European democracy. ✍️ We cannot allow this to pass unnoticed.
