In Yayem, a village of around 1,500 inhabitants in the heart of the Sine Saloum region of Senegal, the non-profit organisation Mediraid is developing a permaculture and medicinal plant project aimed at providing a self-sufficient food supply for the local population. Thanks to the solar installation on the farm building, the association will be able to welcome outside speakers and organise training courses. The association also supports the school, which welcomes many underprivileged children. The photovoltaic installation will help to improve educational conditions. After Yayem, our 3 volunteers also checked the installations at Les Cajoutiers school and the repairs to the pump at Medina Safa. Thank you to Dr Delacroix and Mediraid for their confidence and thank you to our 3 volunteers, Freddy A., Patrick. D. and François M. for this wonderful mission. EA brings together volunteers to perform projects targeting communities having no access to essential energy services.
About us
Energy Assistance (EA) was created in Belgium in 2001 by employees of Tractebel, Electrabel and Fabricom. Today, EA brings together volunteers (either retired and active employees) from the ENGIE Group and from the Belgian grid operators. The association performs worldwide charitable projects targeting communities having no access to essential energy services. It levers from the skills and knowledge of their members, along with their technical resources.

In November 2021, our volunteers equipped Radio Veritas in Kabinda, DRC, with a photovoltaic system to power the transmitter that enables them to broadcast general information, health and environmental programs within a radius of around 250 km. Since then, those in charge of the KKB association (Kantu Keetu Booso asbl) have been keeping us regularly informed, informing us that a new lightning arrester has been installed above the facilities of the youth center and radio station, thus bringing the renovation work to a close. They add: “KKB is very grateful to the decision-makers of Energy Assistance who wanted to enable Radio Veritas to operate autonomously and benefit from a secure electrical installation”. Thank you KKB for this excellent news and for your commitment to looking after these installations. With the support of Fondation ENGIE

In the Essaouira region, in Igourdane and Imentanoute, our colleagues Aziz S. and Marlène J. have equipped two wells with solar installations, enabling almost 200 families to improve their daily lives through better access to water and irrigation of crops, giving them greater food self-sufficiency. They also explored new future Sebt Mzouda projects, in this region stricken by the earthquake of September 2023. Marlène tells us about this wonderful mission on our website: https://lnkd.in/eknKQtUk Many thanks to Marlène Journet and Aziz Sanhaji for their great commitment! With the support of Fondation ENGIE

Nearly 50 experienced volunteers and newcomers gathered at the Volunteers Forum on Saturday, September 28, to share their diverse experiences and missions in Malawi, Morocco, Congo, Panama as well as in Belgium, and to discover EA's objectives and challenges, as well as upcoming missions all over the world. It was also an opportunity to share best practices in terms of ethics, communication and safety, and above all to share an excellent moment of conviviality around the beautiful values of our association Energy Assistance asbl-vzw, supported by the Fondation ENGIE.

To reach Purubiakirú in Panama, our 4 volunteers, Oriano V., Dominique T., Jean-Luc R., Tony MdH. covered almost 9,000 km in the air, 35 km on the road and 9 km on the water, aboard pirogues. Thanks to this incredible mission, the best he's ever done for EA, according to Oriano, the village now has a 4400 Wp installation with two voltage levels, 110 and 230V, and is less isolated thanks to internet access! Well done and thank you to our 4 intrepid volunteers! Discover their story on https://lnkd.in/eS6fU_MR

In Douar Igourdane, in the province of Essaouira, the solar installation now supplies the well, giving 100 families access to drinking water. Yasmine L. recounts her first experience as an E.A. volunteer. Thanks to Yasmine, Aziz Sanhaji and Anas HAMRI for their commitment and this wonderful achievement!
#Maroc #MissionHumanitaire #EnergyAssistance #ImpactSocial #ENGIEBelgium

No less than 12 buildings were equipped with solar power in 7 days by our 6 volunteers, Luc J., Christian T., David V., Cédric B., Frank A. and Pawel J. In Kikwit, DRC, 550k m from Kinshasa, the St François-Xavier health center and the Maison Communautaire for the Sœurs de Marie au Kwango, as well as the Sacré-Coeur and Muvuma health centers for the Sœurs de Saint-André, are now self-sufficient in electricity, for the comfort of doctors and carers, and of course for the many people who can now benefit from their care in better conditions.
