  • Update on the EOSC Federation Handbook The first full draft of the #EOSC Federation Handbook has been written collaboratively through weekly meetups and monthly review meetings, led by EOSC-A. A community consultation on the first three chapters (out of a total of six) ran through November 2024, and a full draft incorporating the consultation feedback was submitted to the EOSC Tripartite Governance in December 2024. This draft, including now all six chapters, was also distributed to the participants in the EOSC Winter School on 20 January. This month, the Handbook writing team will work to consolidate the feedback from both the Tripartite and the EOSC EU Node in order to converge on an updated draft of the Handbook to be released in March. The draft Handbook will assist in enrolling the first wave of EOSC Candidate Nodes in the spring, and will in turn be revised in the fall based on their early experiences. https://lnkd.in/dgHvGGPS

  • Despite the immense challenges posed by the ongoing war in Ukraine, BITP has been instrumental in fostering the principles of Open Science and in integrating Ukraine into the European Research Area and the EOSC community, effectively fulfilling its role as Ukraine’s Mandated Organisation for EOSC-A. The adoption of the National Open Science Plan (2022) marked a milestone, laying the foundation for OS principles. However, the war has posed continuous and dramatic challenges, from infrastructure destruction to funding shortages. However,"it is now clear to all key stakeholders that OS is not merely a concept or a slogan—it represents a fundamental transformation in the research process”. Leveraging its expertise in grid computing and infrastructure, BITP, the EOSC-A Mandated Organisation, facilitates Ukraine’s integration into the European research ecosystem. Coordination of OS in Ukraine involves the Ministry of Education and Science (MES) and the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine (NASU). Recent achievements, like the OPENS initiative and advancements in digital repositories, provide a robust platform for future growth. The war disrupts every facet of life, including science. Yet, Ukrainian researchers persevere, driving OS initiatives forward. The resilience of the scientific community underscores OS’s transformative potential, even amidst adversity. Key support includes access to resources and enabling participation in programmes like Horizon Europe. These opportunities sustain research and foster collaboration at the European level.   🚀 Future Outlook: Despite challenges, Ukraine's Open Science journey reflects resilience and hope. The focus remains on building partnerships, leveraging EOSC resources, and aligning with European best practices to drive impactful change. Full interview: https://lnkd.in/dXw7weBp
