We strengthen the regional and local dimension in EU research and innovation policy and programmes.

About us

ERRIN is a well-established Brussels-based platform of around 120 regional stakeholder organisations from 22 European countries, most of whom are represented by its Brussels offices. We focus solely on research and innovation policy and funding programmes, as well as project development. Our members are mainly regional authorities, universities, research organisations, chambers of commerce, and clusters. They develop the agenda and the priorities of the whole network by taking an active role within our working groups or in our Management Board. Through our 13 working groups, we work with research and innovation in a very comprehensive way, promoting triple and quadruple helix cooperation and the importance of regional innovation ecosystems. ERRIN facilitates regional collaboration and knowledge exchange to the benefit of all its members and partner organisations, with a view to build a competitive Europe which supports smart, sustainable, and inclusive growth in all regions.

  • 𝗣𝘂𝗯𝗹𝗶𝗰 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗰𝘂𝗿𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗱𝗿𝗶𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝗻𝗻𝗼𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗶𝗻 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗲 On 10 December, ERRIN had the pleasure of hosting an insightful exchange between the European Commission and experts from within ERRIN's Health Working Group on how public procurement can help drive innovation and transformation in health care. From addressing resource constraints to fostering cross-border collaboration, the session offered valuable insights into tackling some of the sector’s biggest challenges in this field. 🎤Lieve Bos from DG RTD set the scene with an overview of the innovation procurement instruments in Horizon Europe and key learnings from their implementation over the past years, highlighting the 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟰 𝗯𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗵𝗺𝗮𝗿𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗽𝗼𝗹𝗶𝗰𝘆 𝗳𝗿𝗮𝗺𝗲𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗶𝗻𝗻𝗼𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗰𝘂𝗿𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁: https://lnkd.in/dsJPNBhF 🎤Anders Ulrik Kristoffersen and Kasper Qvist Færgemann, Capital Region of Denmark, Jorge Gonzalez Olalla, Ticbiomed from Instituto de Fomento de la Región de Murcia and Marco Di Donato from the EUREGHA - European Regional and Local Health Authorities shared their experiences and valuable insights from local strategies to collaboration in EU funded projects. 💡 𝗞𝗲𝘆 𝗜𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁: Health care providers today face opportunities and challenges driven by the rapid evolution of health care systems and tightening public budgets. Innovation procurement offers a way forward by shifting from procuring goods or services to tendering the fulfilment needs. However, this is no easy task! A number of EU projects, including inDemand Health, Health InnoFacilitator and Procure4Health, are trying to tackle this by improving cooperation between public and private organisations and creating space for developing good practices and training. 🔗 #ERRINmembers can access the full presentations and a recorded contribution by Hickmah Tagaully, Medicen Paris Region here: https://lnkd.in/eM98YsUW Keep updated with the work of ERRIN's #HealthWG here: https://lnkd.in/eJ_QRNDk 🙏 A big thank you to all our speakers and our moderator Maria Tørnsø Østergaard for your valuable insights!

Competitiveness is the word of the moment, however smart specialisation strategies #S3 remains relevant as regions are key to Europe's innovation and sustainable growth. 5️⃣0️⃣0️⃣ S3 stakeholders from across EU regions gathered on 11–12 December in Rimini, Regione Emilia-Romagna for a #S3Conference organised by the DG for Regional Policy of the European Commission and the S3 Community of Practice Secretariat. ERRIN joined the discussions as part of the S3 CoP Secretariat, alongside many network members and friends. 𝗦𝗼𝗺𝗲 🔑 𝘁𝗮𝗸𝗲𝗮𝘄𝗮𝘆𝘀: 🔹 Place-based perspectives, interregional collaboration and strong regional innovation ecosystems are critical to reinforce EU #competitiveness & the European project with citizens at its heart 🔹S3 encourages region's forward thinking, ecosystem engagement and fosters regional ownership 🔹Looking ahead to the MFF post-2027, advocating for embedding place-based perspective in policies will be critical 🔹Interregional collaboration needs to be strengthened in the future and built more naturally into regional strategies, similarly to the #skills dimension 🔹Regions should experiment and take risks for sustainable transformation 🔹Support Facility for Interregional Innovation Investments #I3 is coming in 2025 to support regional and national innovation stakeholders in interregional innovation ecosystem building One of the agenda points during a meeting of the S3 CoP Interregional Collaboration Working Group was the role of networks in interregional collaboration. Tapping into the full potential of these networks can significantly enhance regional innovation efforts. ERRIN's Ewa Chomicz was invited to present how networks like ERRIN play a pivotal role in supporting regional innovation stakeholders by: ✔️ Navigating EU opportunities and initiatives ✔️Connecting regions across Europe for mutual learning and capacity building ✔️Driving project consortia and proposals, including through ERRIN's Project Development Tool: https://lnkd.in/eGHw7QQB ✔️Bringing regional perspectives and policy messages forward: https://lnkd.in/duGtqBiM) ✔️Drive bottom-up common advocacy efforts towards EU institutions, as demonstrated by ERRIN’s continuing work on #FP10: https://lnkd.in/dyuyprjh) and planned activities around #MFF post-2027. More updates coming soon! It was a pleasure to be part of the last two days in Rimini and we look forward to the next S3 Conference in Brussels, tentatively planned on 25 June 2025 🙌
