We strengthen the regional and local dimension in EU research and innovation policy and programmes.

About us

ERRIN is a well-established Brussels-based platform of around 120 regional stakeholder organisations from 22 European countries, most of whom are represented by its Brussels offices. We focus solely on research and innovation policy and funding programmes, as well as project development. Our members are mainly regional authorities, universities, research organisations, chambers of commerce, and clusters. They develop the agenda and the priorities of the whole network by taking an active role within our working groups or in our Management Board. Through our 13 working groups, we work with research and innovation in a very comprehensive way, promoting triple and quadruple helix cooperation and the importance of regional innovation ecosystems. ERRIN facilitates regional collaboration and knowledge exchange to the benefit of all its members and partner organisations, with a view to build a competitive Europe which supports smart, sustainable, and inclusive growth in all regions.

Earlier this week, ERRIN participated in the #GabrovoInnovationCamp2024 – the eighth edition of this collaborative event focused on 𝘚𝘺𝘴𝘵𝘦𝘮𝘪𝘤 𝘪𝘯𝘯𝘰𝘷𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘴 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘶𝘳𝘣𝘢𝘯 𝘴𝘶𝘴𝘵𝘢𝘪𝘯𝘢𝘣𝘪𝘭𝘪𝘵𝘺🏙️ organised under the European Commission's Knowledge Exchange Platform (KEP) 🇪🇺. 🙌 A special thanks to 𝗧𝗮𝗻𝘆𝗮 𝗛𝗿𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗼𝘃𝗮, 𝗠𝗮𝘆𝗼𝗿 𝗼𝗳 𝗚𝗮𝗯𝗿𝗼𝘃𝗼 and Chairperson of the SEDEC at the European Committee of the Regions, as well as the organising team for the opportunity to share insights on the role of regional networks in enabling, supporting, and strengthening regional and local #innovationecosystems The event served as a platform to engage stakeholders in activities supporting the implementation of climate neutrality policies for Gabrovo. As one of the 111 Cities Mission participants, Gabrovo is actively working with the NetZeroCitiesEU project to achieve climate neutrality by 2030 🌍 Key takeaways from the three-day camp: 🔹 The #RegionalInnovationValleys (RIVs) instrument is a key tool for strengthening local and regional innovation ecosystems, particularly in addressing the #innovationdivide. 🔹Engaging diverse stakeholder – including the #GabrovoMunicipality, the RIC Gabrovo Technical University of Gabrovo, youth centres, the cultural sector and engaged citizens – generates actionable ideas to drive innovation, retain talent and achieve climate neutrality. 🔹Knowledge exchange between European cities and regions is essential for achieving municipal objectives, reaffirming ERRIN's commitment to facilitate shared learning through its Working Groups and member activities.

The Week of Innovative Regions in Europe 2024 conference has concluded! Over a hundred regional stakeholders from across Europe gathered in Budapest and online for two days of intense discussions and networking. Some key takeaways from the multiple topics covered: 🔹 Strong interconnected regional #ecosystems are crucial for fostering European #competitiveness – a systemic approach/framework is needed here 🔹 #InnovationDivide remains one of the key challenges for R&I in Europe – more must be done on the EU side but also on the local and national side 🔹 Regional Innovation Scoreboard can serve policymaking – but one should look beyond quantitative indicators for more insights 🔹 There's a need to work further on the funding #synergies that work – plan ahead, raise awareness, facilitate exchange and promote good practices (find more points: https://lnkd.in/deA2FZYM) 🔹 Providing directionality can be a great way to mobilise ecosystem stakeholders, including private sector, to work together – #RegionalInnovationValleys calls in 2025 and new EU Preparatory Action on Innovation for Place-based Transformation (apply to take part by 22 November: https://lnkd.in/dSJca3pV) enable this approach 🔹 While emphasising the importance of R&I ecosystems, #FP10 should have their place-based territorial dimension at its heart (read more about ERRIN's work on FP10: https://lnkd.in/dyuyprjh) The discussions were coupled with lots of direct insights from ongoing regional projects and vibrant exchanges behind the scenes. 🤝 The talks included one common denominator: the need to take action and work together. Many #ERRINmembers contributed to the debates as speakers, alongside colleagues from other regional ecosystems, experts, European Commission representatives, as well as ERRIN’s Director Pirita Lindholm and Ewa Chomicz. Pirita led a forward-looking panel on funding synergies and raised points on the critical value of #placebased perspective in the closing conference discussion on the next EU Framework Programme for R&I and #MFF post-2027. Ewa moderated a debate on the status and way forward for the Regional Innovation Valleys, in the context of ERRIN’s extensive ongoing work around the topic. We look forward to continuing the exchanges. This year’s #WIRE2024 was already its XIII edition, organised this time by the NRDIO - National Research Development and Innovation Office (NKFIH) under the Hungarian Presidency of the Council of the European Union #HU24EU, with ERRIN as part of the Steering Committee. Many thanks to the organisers, fellow speakers and participants for the excellent event! 👏 📺 If you missed the conference or would like to revisit the discussions, you can find the recording here: https://lnkd.in/gEV2wiMa

♻️Flashback to yesterday's inspiring 3rd Circular Cities and Regions Initiative (CCRI) Workshop in Brussels: Making Circular Investments Pay Off for Cities and Regions. ERRIN's Astrid Hannes moderated the final session "#CCRI in Action: '𝗦𝘁𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗦𝘂𝗰𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗜𝗻𝗻𝗼𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆', spotlighting local and regional success stories in circular investment. Special thanks to the panellists: 🔹 Montse Guerrero Pérez of Navarra’s SODENA highlighted Navarra Regions policy embedded approach and presented the ECIV #RegionalInnovationValleys initiative, fostering interregional collaboration and expanding market access for circular products. 🔹 Hugo Delahaye from Roubaix, who shared how CCRI-backed low-tech, resource-efficient projects have regenerated abandoned land and boosted local economic growth. 🔹 Susana Lopes from LIPOR highlighted how the CCRI HOOP Project, including Project Development Assistance, empowered eight municipalities with legal and technical expertise to drive circular waste management. 💡Stay tuned for more news with a new CCRI-Community of Practice and Policy Stakeholder Dialogues to come in 2025! https://lnkd.in/d9WS3eAG #ERRINinPROJECTS
