🤝 Meet Bernard Gerritsma, one of our speakers at the ESSMA Safety & Operations Workshop Bernard Gerritsma is the director of Security Management Group (SMG). Under his leadership, SMG manages security operations at Stadion Feijenoord ‘De Kuip’ on match days and during other events in the stadium. 💥 Fan Activity versus Pyrotechnics One of the key topics Bernard Gerritsma will address during the workshop is the challenge of balancing fan engagement with stadium safety, particularly regarding the use of pyrotechnics. In the Netherlands, and especially at Feyenoord, large and impressive tifo displays often go hand in hand with the use of illegal fireworks. A recent example occurred during the KNVB Cup final on 21 April 2024 at De Kuip, where stunning tifo displays were accompanied by the lighting of pyrotechnic flares. Unfortunately, some of these flares were thrown into the moat around the pitch, igniting a discarded tifo and causing significant smoke development. This led to a temporary stoppage of the match just minutes after kick-off. The case raises an important question: how can we better anticipate and prevent such incidents to ensure safety while maintaining the passionate atmosphere of football events? 🤔 What’s your take? Explore different perspectives and share your opinion during the ESSMA Safety & Operations Workshop on 24 & 25 March. 🎟️ Book your tickets here: https://lnkd.in/e2hQWMHx We look forward to seeing you in Brussels and Leuven!

Stadium Industry Updates - 25 February 2025 Read the full article on our website: https://lnkd.in/d6v7y-bU This week's SIU's in a nutshell: 🏗️ RAFC Antwerp Granted Permit for New 8,700-Seat Stand Royal Antwerp F.C. has received approval to demolish and rebuild "Stand 2" at Bosuil Stadium. The new stand will add 8,700 seats, improving capacity, comfort, and matchday experience. The redevelopment replaces an outdated structure with a modern alternative. Construction plans and timelines will be shared soon! 🏗️ Getafe CF Confirms Start Date for "Little Bernabéu" Renovation Getafe C.F., S.A.D. has announced that renovations for Coliseum Alfonso Pérez will begin in June 2025. Inspired by Santiago Bernabéu’s transformation, upgrades will include a new roofing structure, improved seating, and modern hospitality areas. The project aims to enhance the fan experience while making the stadium more sustainable. Work will take place during the summer break to minimise impact on matches. 🏗️ Seismic Safety Challenges for Stadio Artemio Franchi Authorities are evaluating seismic reinforcements for Stadio Artemio Franchi in Florence, a historic venue designed by Pier Luigi Nervi. The challenge lies in strengthening the structure while preserving its protected architectural design. Any modifications must balance modern safety standards with heritage conservation. Discussions on the best approach are ongoing, with further assessments expected soon. 🏗️ Nürnberg Scales Down Max-Morlock-Stadion Redevelopment Financial constraints have led to a revised renovation plan for Max-Morlock-Stadion, focusing on essential upgrades rather than a full-scale overhaul. Safety, accessibility, and infrastructure improvements will take priority. While the stadium’s transformation won’t be as extensive as initially planned, these updates will ensure it remains fit for the future. Renovation work will proceed in phases to minimise disruptions. Other organisations in this week's SIU: Principality Stadium, Benghazi International stadium, Paris Saint-Germain Stay tuned for more updates from the stadium industry! #StadiumIndustry #Updates #News
