🎉 We have some great news to share with you! The latest European Environment Agency (EEA) report recognises Waste-to-Energy as a key solution for reducing methane emissions in the #waste sector 🌍⚡. The EEA's report on methane, climate change and air quality in Europe published yesterday acknowledges the critical role of WtE in diverting waste from landfills and cutting methane—a greenhouse gas 84x more potent than CO₂. 🟩 ❗ESWET calls on EU policymakers to build on this momentum and ensure that the upcoming revisions to waste and climate policies integrate WtE as a key pillar of methane reduction efforts. ESWET - European Suppliers of Waste-to-Energy Technology
Environmental Services
The European association representing manufacturers and companies investing in Waste-to-Energy technologies.
About us
ESWET is a European association representing the European suppliers of Waste-to-Energy technologies, committed to foster the development and dissemination of Waste-to-Energy at the European level. ESWET also seeks to raise the awareness of the positive implications of the technology in terms of better waste management, energy and for the environment. Waste-to-Energy is an essential part of a sustainable waste management strategy: it treats waste that is not suitable for recycling and reuse, and would otherwise be landfilled. Moreover, it recovers from waste clean energy that can be then used to heat and cool houses and trades and to power transports.

🌲🏭 ESWET welcomes the #CleanIndustrialDeal unveiled today by the European Commission, and urges policymakers to fully recognise Waste-to-Energy (WtE) as a key contributor to a clean, circular, and energy-secure Europe. WtE supports the competitiveness and ♻️ decarbonisation of the EU economy by converting non-recyclable waste into affordable, reliable energy and recovering secondary raw materials, core pillars of the Clean Industrial Deal. ESWET calls on EU policymakers to recognise WtE as a strategic sector in Europe’s industrial decarbonisation strategy, and in particular to: ✅ Recognise WtE as a strategic sector in Europe’s industrial decarbonisation strategy ✅ Ensure fair treatment of WtE in the EU Taxonomy and Emissions Trading System (ETS) ✅ Establish harmonised End-of-Waste criteria for recovered materials ✅ Facilitate CCUS investments for WtE with financial incentives and regulatory clarity ✅ Promote WtE’s role in district heating, as part of Europe’s energy resilience For more on ESWET's position on the Clean Industrial Deal, read our press release ⤵️ https://lnkd.in/dXVQw3dd

Mercury is highly toxic and causes great damage to both humans and the environment. Now an innovative mercury control system offers a new way to lower mercury emissions in coal-fired power plants. The “Wonderbed” technology is the result of a five-years cooperation between ESWET members Steinmüller Engineering GmbH & IEM FörderTechnik Learn why this is an important step for #pollutioncontrol ⤵️ https://lnkd.in/d3anuiUh

When it comes to waste treatment, Waste-to-Energy and landfilling continue to spark an intense debate ⚡ . 📅 On 6 March, ESWET President Siegfried Scholz will make a case for Waste-to-Energy (WtE) at the Energy from Waste, 5 - 6 March 2025 conference. Dr. Scholz will talk about why WtE should stay above landfill in the waste hierarchy and why a level playing field should be maintained in the Emission Trading System (ETS.) Mark your calendar if you plan to attend the Energy from Waste conference on that day. The panel will start 9:15 London time (10:15 CET). Other speakers will include: Anja Schwetje, Fynn Hauschke & Jacob Hayler. Learn more 👉 https://lnkd.in/dMWRV7vu 👉https://lnkd.in/e8P4-cMi #wastetoenergy #waste #ETS

Meet ESWET’s Carbon Capture, Utilisation and Storage (CCUS) Working Group dream team! Following our successful Working Group meeting yesterday, Dr. Kai Lieball, Director Decarbonisation at Kanadevia Inova, will be the CCUS Working Group's new Chairman. The CCUS Working Group will now boast two Co-Chairmen: - Dr. Alain Bill, Vice President Global Sales and Business Development in the Clean Air Technologies Division at ANDRITZ & - Dr. Vincent GROSJEAN, Innovation & Industrialisation Engineer at PAPREC. Thank you so much to Dr. Tom Croymans, PhD, ESWET's previous CCUS Working Group Chairman, who successfully led the group with his expertise and dedication for the past 3.5 years. We wholeheartedly wish Tom well in his future role at Carmeuse. CCUS is essential for Waste-to-Energy (WtE) to achieve carbon-negative emissions, as it captures biogenic #CO2 emissions while also significantly reducing fossil emissions from non-recyclable waste. By integrating CCUS, WtE not only mitigates #climate impact but also plays a key role in a net-zero and #circulareconomy. #CarbonCapture #CCUS #wastetoenergy #waste Picture, from L to R: Dr. Bill, Dr. Grosjean, Dr. Lieball, Dr. Croymans
