Fostering breakthrough innovations in the wind energy sector.

About us

ETIPWind or the European Technology and Innovation Platform on Wind Energy was first established in 2016 by WindEurope with the support of the European Commission. The ambition is to define and agree on concrete research and innovation (R&I) priorities and communicate these to the European institutions and other decision making bodies in order to support the EU’s ambition of a decarbonised economy by 2050. Project funded by the European Union. Views and opinions expressed are however those of the author(s) only and do not necessarily reflect those of the European Union or the granting authority. [3,100 GW: Europe’s incredible potential for Floating Offshore Wind] ⚡ The latest report by ETIPWind and ETIP Ocean highlights an outstanding 4,673 GW of offshore wind potential in Europe, with over 3,100 GW requiring floating wind technologies. The details by geography are illustrated in the graphs extracted from the report. Yet, the EU’s goal of 300 GW by 2050 only taps into 6% of this vast resource. Despite being less mature than bottom-fixed wind, floating offshore wind is advancing rapidly and is critical to EU energy sovereignty. 💡 At BW Ideol, we’re not just aware of the challenges ahead; we’re already driving solutions: ✅ Proven and Competitive Floating Substructure: Our patented Damping Pool® technology has been field-tested with two full-scale assets in France and Japan, and is ready to scale, ensuring stability and efficiency in deep waters. ✅ Port-Ready Manufacturing: We’re collaborating with key stakeholders to streamline assembly and transport, cutting costs and accelerating deployment. ✅ Future-Proof Grid Integration: Thanks to our full-scale assets, we’ve been able to test and develop robust cable and mooring solutions to ensure seamless connections for tomorrow’s floating wind farms. Let’s build a competitive, climate-neutral Europe—one floating wind farm at a time. 💪

On 22 November we held the last ETIPWind Steering Committee meeting of the year! With the festive season around the corner, it was the perfect time to prepare for what is ahead in the next months. 🎄✨ Our agenda focused on two key priorities: 📌 Shaping the ETIPWind Roadmap: We established the working groups and dove into the methodology for our next publication, that will focus on implementing the R&I priorities identified in the Strategic R&I Agenda and the NEWindEERA documents. The roadmap will focus on the how, turning priorities into actionable steps. A special thanks to DG RTD for their feedback on how to make it more impactful! 📌 Take our partnership on wind R&I further, ensuring full alignment between industry, the research community, the European Commission, and the Member States. Thank you to all Steering Committee members for your engagement and contributions! 👏

During the #SETPlan Conference, we had a dynamic session on boosting #sustainability in wind and ocean energy. Here is what we discussed: 🔄Wind energy leads the way. Up to 95% of a wind turbine can be recycled. The next big step is to focus on closing the circularity loop and get everything recycled or reused. ♻Blade recycling remains a priority. The technology is ready but the market incentives are not there yet. Without a clear market signal, there will be no investment in material recycling value chains. 🏛EU and national leaders must incentivise sustainable practices through measures like including sustainability criteria in auctions and adapting waste frameworks for composite materials—a complex mix of glass and carbon fibers, resins, and plastics. It is time to act. We need to start making choices and implement sustainability principles to drive the sector forward. 📢 During the panel, our latest joint report on offshore renewables was mentioned - download it here: https://lnkd.in/egK_hUTg Thanks to all the speakers for sharing their contributions and experiences! Alexander Vandenberghe Lotta Pirttimaa John Korsgaard Sandra Pfeiffer and to our panel chair Evdokia Tapoglou !

Wrapping up 3 days of productive dialogue in Budapest at the #SETPlan Conference 2024! Here are the main highlights 👇 ETIPWind joined the first workshop about the cross-cutting taskforces of the SET Plan. Their role will be to provide guidance and technical recommendations to the Commission on common challenges faced by the clean energy sector, like circularity, access to market, skills, societal needs, or digitalisation. The panels on the 14 and 15 November brought valuable insights into the role of Research and Innovation in boosting European competitiveness in clean energy technologies: 👉 Mechthild Wörsdörfer from DG ENER opened the conference stressing the urgency to address the innovation gaps with a clear clean tech strategy. For that the Clean Industrial Deal will be the cornerstone. 👉 The International Energy Agency (IEA) reminded the need to target strategic technologies where Europe still leads, such as wind. 👉 There is a consensus to move to the implementation phase. During the conference, ETIPWind had several meetings with representatives from the Commission and the Member States to define actions in this direction. A key tool of this implementation will be public-private partnerships, as conveyed in the wrap-up message of Marc Lemaitre from DG RTD. Next stop for the SET Plan Conference 2025 will be Copenhagen. And we look forward to it!   Iben Møller Søndergård Claus Meineche Rosalinde van der Vlies @Vincent Berrutto Vangelis Tzimas Teodor Kuzov Luisa Revilla John Korsgaard Adrian Timbus

A productive day for ETIPWind! Today, we engaged in two insightful online workshops co-organised by multiple ETIPs: 🗣️Social Acceptance of Renewable Energy Projects Co-hosted with ETIP Bioenergy and ETIP HYDROPOWER, the workshop explored strategies to engage with local communities and effective communication to address public concerns around energy projects. A big thank you to Emma Reiners from Acciona Energia for sharing real-world experiences and concrete examples of social engagement mechanisms. But also to Mariya Trifonova, PhD from University of Sofia for providing the Bulgarian perspective on how to tackle disinformation. 🔋Power to X (P2X) Together with ETIP PV - The European Technology & Innovation Platform for Photovoltaics, we moved into the future of e-fuels and renewable hydrogen in achieving a net-zero system. Our colleague Marija Dabrisiute started with an update on hydrogen policy developments and EU level scenario. Which was followed by two presentations on technologies to produce hydrogen derivatives and commercial applications of P-to-hydrogen. Many thanks EUREC - The Association of European Renewable Energy Research Centres for the workshops’ organisation!
