👏 That’s a wrap for our #EnerGreenDeal Conference!   We were pleased to discuss key topics for a #EU #climate and #energy policy to implement the European Clean Industrial Deal, showcasing fruitful discussions between EU institutions representatives and industry stakeholders.   In the face of geopolitical challenges, it's vital to uphold the European Green Deal and our clean energy targets while fostering a robust industrial ecosystem. The Conference just concluded with an insightful panel session focused on energy prices and the way to an affordable supply of renewable and low-carbon energy for the European industry. Representatives of energy sector companies and Members of the European Parliament exchanged views on the factors influencing energy prices, the Clean Industrial Deal and financial aspects. It was an honour to welcome Wopke Hoekstra, the new Commissioner for Climate, Net Zero and Clean Growth at the European Commission. In his inspiring speech, Commissioner Hoekstra emphasised that despite the current "geopolitical winter," the EU remains a beacon of tradition, renewal and innovation. He outlined the Commission's plans to address European citizens' concerns regarding the future of climate policies and their impact on the cost of living. For our final keynote speech of the day, we were delighted to give the floor to Matthieu Auzanneau, Executive Director of The Shift Project. The Shift Project is a French think tank advocating the shift to a post-carbon economy. As a non-profit organisation committed to serving the general interest through scientific objectivity, we are dedicated to informing and influencing the debate on energy transition in Europe. Mr Auzanneau gave a lot of interesting insights into what it means to shift away from fossil fuels and towards alternative energies. He warned about the combination of the decline in the North Sea and the increasing dependence on Russian gas, which he calls a deadly cocktail. And while he acknowledged that alternatives are more difficult to employ and that we don’t have the economic means to meet every economic demand, which is why fossil fuels remain dominant energy sources, "we have no choice but to make our energy a transition a success." In our afternoon session, we explored the topic of "Clean and Reliable Fuels for the Future of Transportation." The discussion highlighted key transport policies shaping the path forward, including the upcoming revisions to the CO2 Standards Regulation, the Alternative Fuels Infrastructure Regulation (AFIR), and the Sustainable Transport Investment Plan. Our speakers examined a wide range of transport modes, from cars and heavy-duty vehicles to maritime and aviation, and discussed the transformative role of eFuels. All speakers agreed on the urgent need to improve the market for alternative fuels to help the transport sector accelerate its decarbonisation efforts. ✨ During the Parallel session "Decarbonising buildings: Measures and technologies for a successful transition", speakers explored the latest initiatives, regulatory framework and innovations in the heating and cooling sector of #buildings. One challenge is consumers' uncertainty due to the variety of options and renovation possibilities. Solutions such as informational campaigns, free #energy advice, and workshops led by independent advisors were proposed to address this barrier. The discussion also stressed the importance of investing in the construction sector, introducing minimum energy performance standards, creating financial incentives for energy efficiency improvements, and setting a long-term regulatory planning horizon. Beyond automotive: how the CO2 standards for cars strengthen Europe’s net-zero industries - a panel discussion organised by the Platform for Electromobility during today’s European EnerGreenDeal Conference. Overall a recognition of the importance of a successful & prosperous batteries value chain in Europe. A clear message to the new Commission to keep the long term goals and that urgent action is needed to address current challenges of the batteries industry, to address demand slowdown, financing, derisking projects, and to create a true level playing field through effective sustainability measures & market surveillance. #EnerGreenDeal #Batteries4EU #electromobility

One of our first afternoon panels, “Advancing decarbonisation: How hydrogen and carbon capture can transform industry turning the hype into reality transportation?” explored the critical role of hydrogen in achieving decarbonisation goals. While there was talk of there not being enough hydrogen due to a lack of demand and that, while there is a commitment to 2050 carbon net neutrality, hydrogen has to face a reality check, EU representatives reaffirmed their support of that demand by supporting implementation and financing future projects. On an EU level, the key message was the need to make sure that voters and people have affordable energy and that hydrogen will play a role in the economy, stressing that industry feedback is important as hydrogen is one of the keys to decarbonisation. 2030 is around the corner - how many days left? There are ambitious benchmarks set in the Critical Raw Materials Act for 2030, and time is ticking 🕰️ ‼️ At the session on batteries & critical raw materials during the European EnerGreenDeal Conference, the excellent panellists discussed the commitment to develop value chains & how communication & education play an important role. CRMs (and the mining, refining, recycling ♻️ of those) & batteries 🔋 are all needed for our #decarbonisation trajectory in Europe. The jobs created through a prosperous value chain delivering for the transition technologies can be here in Europe, why shouldn’t they be?
