Shaping Europe’s Digital Infrastructure: Advancing cross-domain standardisation and IoT-Edge Computing, supported by INSTAR CEI-Sphere support actios. Stakeholders at the “Cross-Domain Standardisation and Architecture for IoT and Edge Computing” workshop on 26th November emphasised the need for open standards, open-source innovation, and coordinated efforts across sectors like energy and mobility to enhance Europe’s position in IoT and edge computing. Cooperation with US and Korea was highlighted to address challenges of device orchestration, data management, and industry fragmentation, with a focus on the role of interoperability and emerging common European data spaces, digital twins, and APIs for distributed energy resources (DER) management and grid integration. 🚀🌏 Big News in Global Research & Innovation! 🌏🚀 The #EU and #Japan have officially launched formal talks to associate Japan with #HorizonEurope, the EU’s premier research and innovation funding program! 🎓🔬 👏 This exciting step marks a significant milestone in fostering #globalcollaboration to address challenges like climate change, health, and cutting-edge technologies. 🤝 🇪🇺 🌏 Iliana Ivanova, Commissioner for Innovation, Research, Culture, Education and Youth, said: “The opening of the negotiations on the association of Japan to Horizon Europe marks a step change in our cooperation. For both EU and Japan, research and innovation are key to ensuring competitiveness and achieving the green and digital transitions. Together, we will be able to reach them faster, and find solutions to the world’s most pressing challenges.” "Japan is a key strategic partner for Europe and bilateral research and innovation relations have developed steadily over the past two decades. Working with a budget of €93.5 billion over seven years (2021-27), Horizon Europe is open to the world. Researchers and organisations from all over the world can participate in most calls, but those from associated countries have additional opportunities in collaborative projects and are treated on par with their EU counterparts with regard to access to funding." 📖 Read more here: EU and Japan launch formal talks on association to Horizon Europe 🔗 https://lnkd.in/eCSJPrRK #EUJapanPartnership #HorizonEurope #GlobalInnovation #ResearchForTheFuture NexusForum.EU EU Digital & Tech

Yesterday afternoon marked the start of the in-person #CEI-Sphere's kick-off meeting in Brussels, building on the official project launch that took place online in October. This meeting provided an invaluable opportunity for all partners to dive deeper into the project we will be working on together over the next 2.5 years. The aim of the meeting is to review the proposed approaches and frameworks introduced by the project consortium partners via dedicated workshops, helping to define actions and milestones for the first phase. Central objectives include refining strategies for engaging large-scale #pilots, aligning expectations with the project roadmap, and clarifying the scope and desired outcomes. The aforementioned large-scale pilots, which will officially begin in January with #energy as a cross-sectoral domain, will be supported by our efforts to build on the valuable insights from the #standardisation #workshop held earlier these days in Brussels. Stay tuned for updates as this ambitious project takes shape! 🚀 BluSpecs IoT Tribe IDC VDI/VDE-IT Trialog INSIDE Industry Association AIOTI Trust-IT Services COMMpla srl

✅ New European Commission: approved! Today the European Parliament voted on the new college of commissioners who will be proposing EU policies for the next five years. The Commission can now begin its term on 1 December. With the Commission in place, the process to select the new EU executive - that started when you voted for your representatives in the European elections in June - comes to an end. Over the next five years, Parliament will continue to examine the work of the Commission and other EU institutions to hold them to account and make sure that policies improve the lives of EU citizens. This morning, the INSTAR Standards and CEI-Sphere Workshop on "Cross-Domain Standardisation and Architecture for IoT and Edge Computing" delivered valuable insights and takeaways. Antonio Kung (Trialog, OCEI), alongside Rolf Riemenschneider and Carlos López Rodríguez from DG CNECT, chaired the summary session, highlighting the collaborative progress made during the discussions. 1️⃣ #Energy stands out as a pivotal cross-sector domain requiring comprehensive #collaboration. Efforts must be made to integrate its standards across different industries to drive innovation and efficiency. 2️⃣ Strengthened #international #partnerships, e.g. with South Korea, particularly in edge computing standardisation, highlight the value of sharing roadmaps and connecting experts. More in general, pilots and projects should avoid isolated operations, instead cooperating with cooperation and support actions on Cloud-Edge-IoT and standardisation initiatives like INSTAR, INDICO-Global, and HSBooster for networking and socialisation. Additionally, platforms like StandICT offer valuable support for individual standardisation efforts. 3️⃣ Standards and business strategies are intertwined. Anticipating industry needs and contributing to standards in their formative stages is vital to ensure alignment and relevance. 4️⃣ The ICT Rolling Plan provides valuable guidance and should be actively contributed to, as it undergoes annual updates to reflect emerging priorities. 5️⃣ Collaboration between open source communities and standardisation bodies must continue to grow, ensuring mutual reinforcement of efforts. Looking ahead, CEI-Sphere and INSTAR Standards will soon release a comprehensive summary report of the workshop’s outcomes. Stay tuned for updates! 🔔
