To boost #competitiveness in the EU, Mario #Draghi recommends looking at the broader picture to truly transform our energy systems — especially the rising costs of decarbonisation: “Policy decisions should as such not solely be based on the levelized cost of electricity (LCOE) associated with each project or technology, but should account for the increasing overall system cost associated with the decarbonisation of the economy.” We could not agree more: ⚡️ Grid and system integration, flexibility, storage, redispatch, and demand flexibility are critical areas that need attention to ensure a smooth transition. 🔋 Variable renewable energy, while crucial, does not provide firm power. To ensure a balanced and resilient energy system, we must invest in flexible power generation and robust networks to balance renewable power efficiently. ✅ Policy decisions must focus not only on the cost of electricity but on equivalent firm power, ensuring energy security while keeping system costs in check.
