This year's #MediterraneanDay, I want to shine a spotlight on community development. Lebanon has faced significant challenges in recent years, including a devastating conflict that displaced thousands of families, leaving many homeless and uprooted from their communities. Among those most affected are the youth, who often find themselves without a clear vision for their future. This lack of direction is deeply concerning, as Youth = Future. Understanding the urgent need for support, I had the privilege of organizing and leading over 35 sessions aimed at empowering displaced youth. These sessions covered a wide range of critical topics, including: Leadership Development Effective Communication Stress Management Leading During Emergencies Critical Thinking Emotional Intelligence Anger Management Yoga for Mental and Physical Well-being Project Management Facilitation Skills These workshops were not just about imparting knowledge—they were about inspiring hope and resilience. Each session was designed to equip young people with the tools they need to navigate their current challenges and prepare for a brighter future. Through these initiatives, we’ve seen remarkable growth. Youth who once felt lost and uncertain are now stepping up as leaders, driving change within their communities, and envisioning futures that once seemed out of reach. They’ve come to realize that while they cannot control every circumstance, they can control how they respond—and in doing so, they can reshape their reality. As we reflect on the impact of these efforts, I am reminded of the power of youth to drive transformation, even in the face of adversity. I am excited to participate in the #MediterraneanDay challenge, where I will share my experiences with LECAO, a youth-led organization dedicated to environmental and climate action. This non-profit organization was established to promote environmental awareness, education, research, and contribute to achieving sustainable development goals, while representing Libyan youth both locally and internationally in environmental forums. Over the past few years, we have worked diligently to raise awareness about the environmental and climate challenges facing Libya. We began by organizing workshops and training sessions, leading up to conducting scientific research that highlights the impacts of climate change in our regions. We have undertaken numerous scientific trips to the areas most vulnerable to the effects of climate change, which also harbor rich biodiversity. Through these activities, we continuously work as a team to deepen our understanding of the challenges we face. - our journey is not without its challenges. We encounter multiple obstacles, such as a lack of public awareness regarding environmental issues and difficulties in accessing the necessary resources to implement our projects. Additionally, the economic and political conditions in the country affect our ability to operate effectively. Despite these challenges, we remain resilient, driven by our deep belief in the importance of environmental and climate work. We believe that every effort made, no matter how small, can create a significant difference. We draw strength from the support of the local community and the partnerships we build with other organizations, which helps us enhance collective efforts to bring about change. Through determination and innovation, we strive to turn challenges into opportunities, and we work hard to inspire others to join us on this journey. This year's #MeditarraneanDay, EU Neighbours South is turning the spotlight on youth conquering the most pressing challenges we face to ignite solution driven conversations... Living in Lebanon for more than 15 years now, I observed There is often a disconnect between the skills youth acquire through education and the needs of the job market, leading to underemployment or unemployment eventually. To highlight the role of our everyday changemakers, I'd like to point out how INJAZ Lebanon connected us with personal mentors for 8 months of one-on-one sessions, assisting us in personalized career journey plans, expanding my professional network with online webinars & talks through INTERSECTION, A Mentorship Program of a dynamic group ,24 exceptional mentors from across the MENA region and Europe who joined forces up to lend a helping hand, share their wisdom, and walk the career journey with our 25 talented youth from every corner of Lebanon. Together, they've shaped personalized career paths – making dreams more achievable and goals more within reach, whether in business, engineering, healthcare, design, technology, and more. With the guidance of the volunteer mentors, 6 mentees landed jobs, 2 mentees launched their startups, and 5 mentees enrolled in post-graduate degrees in Lebanon, France, and USA.
