Over the past few days, Francesca Pisanu, Eurochild EU Advocacy officer, and Eurochild's members Kenniscentrum Kinderrechten (KeKi) - Children's Rights Knowledge Centre, represented by Zeno Nols, and Francesca Stuer, individual member, participated in the European Disability Conference, with focus on the second phase of the Rights of Persons with #Disabilities, particularly on making their implementation a reality and bringing about positive changes in the lives of persons with disabilities. A key panel on independent living and #deinstitutionalisation highlighted powerful lived experiences and made critical recommendations for removing the barriers that still prevent people with disabilities from living independently. The Conference concluded with a focus on building #accessible and #inclusive cities. Topics covered included improving public transport, ensuring leisure spaces are accessible, adopting inclusive architectural design, and the power of assisted technology in this context. Advocating for the rights of #children with disabilities is a key part of our work and of the work of our members all over Europe as highlighted in our Flagship report Children's Realities in Europe: Progress & Gaps: https://t.co/sUlNUIMg78

🚨 Together with 15 organisations, we have addressed a joint letter to the new Executive Vice-President for People, Skills, and Preparedness, Roxana Minzatu. We welcome the new EVP and request a meeting to discuss the upcoming first-ever EU Anti-Poverty Strategy, announced by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen. This is a pivotal moment for the EU to intensify efforts in the fight against poverty and work towards its eradication. As civil society organisations working on a wide range of fundamental rights, our diverse and complementary perspectives will be key to contribute to a comprehensive and intersectional EU Anti-Poverty Strategy, that aligns with other key EU policy frameworks. Poverty is a fundamental rights violation. It's time for poverty eradication! https://lnkd.in/dFzFi8tD #EUAntiPovertyStrategy #EUAPS #EndPoverty

Eurochild welcomes the report on the implementation of the EU anti-racism action plan 2020-2025 and on national action plans against #racism and #discrimination. Whether conscious or unconscious and manifested in both subtle and overt forms, racism perpetuates #systemicinequities that disproportionately affect racialised communities, leading to multiple #childrights violations. In 2024, Europe witnessed an unprecedented number of national elections. While some countries have made steps forward to promote and protect children’s rights, others need to intensify their efforts. This diversity is reflected in the lived realities of children across Europe. With insights from 57 Eurochild members across 31 European countries, we identified recommendations for decision-makers to address children’s needs starting from the realities in which they live. ‘No more waiting, no more delay, time to act is here, now and today’ – Rhythm, 16 years old. On #WorldChildrensDay, the Eurochild Children's Council met with Members of the European Parliament to raise their voices on the urgent need to prioritise children’s rights across Europe and beyond. Their message is simple and clear: children are not just the citizens of tomorrow, the decisions made today shape their present and future and they must be part of the conversation. "Children are often seen as passive recipients of policies, not as active participants" said Amina from Ireland. Yesterday during the #WorldChildrensDay celebrations at the European Parliament with Child Rights Action Group allies and MEPs, the Eurochild Children's Council members together with other young people from across Europe urged decision-makers to prioritise #childrights and #childparticipation with a specific focus on mental health and wellbeing, education, environment, child protection online and offline. 📸https://lnkd.in/e5Pum7jW
