❗ 𝗔 𝗖𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝘁𝗼 𝗠𝗮𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻 𝗘𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗴𝘆 𝗦𝗲𝗰𝘂𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗸𝗲𝘁 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗶𝗻 𝗘𝘂𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗲'𝘀 𝗖𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗻 𝗜𝗻𝗱𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗗𝗲𝗮𝗹 ✉️ Today, Eurogas, alongside a coalition of market participants, has sent a joint letter to 𝗘𝘂𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗮𝗻 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗶𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗣𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁 Ursula von der Leyen, urging policymakers to ensure that Europe's energy security and financial stability remain at the heart of the Clean Industrial Deal. While we fully support the EU’s ambition to accelerate decarbonisation and industrial competitiveness, we must also recognise that well-functioning energy markets are essential to delivering affordable, reliable, and sustainable energy. The introduction of a price cap - as discussed in the forthcoming Clean Industrial Deal or Action Plan on Affordable Energy Prices - risks undermining Europe's attractiveness for LNG suppliers, increasing price volatility, and weakening long-term investments in energy infrastructure. 📢 𝗢𝘂𝗿 𝗺𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗮𝗴𝗲 𝗶𝘀 𝗰𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗿: market-based solutions and regulatory stability are critical to securing Europe’s energy future. ✅ Yesterday, Eurogas had the pleasure to co-organise a webinar exploring the role of biomethane in the Greenhouse Gas Protocol (GHG Protocol) standards and guidance. ❕ Bringing together associations, analysts, and companies from all parts of the value chain, as well as a geographical scope, stretching from Europe to North America and Brazil. It's no wonder that this important event gathered over 500 participants online! 🔦 There is clearly incredible interest in alternative fuels like this, and with good reason. #Biomethane can be used to help decarbonise gas demand utilising existing infrastructure, and is especially promising as one of the tools for improving hard-to-abate sectors' emissions reductions potential. 🔎 The #GHGProtocol provides an important voluntary benchmark for companies around the world to decrease their emissions, but the withdrawal of guidance on the use of biomethane certificates during this recent GHGP revision leave a fair amount of uncertainty that could dissuade the scale-up of this crucial alternative.
