European Biogas Association

Renewable Energy Semiconductor Manufacturing

The European Biogas Association is the leading European non-governmental organisation promoting renewable gas in Europe.

About us

European Biogas Association (EBA) was founded in February 2009 as a Belgian non-profit organisation aiming to promote the deployment of sustainable biogas production and use in Europe. This covers all energetic applications of biogas like heat, electricity and automotive fuel. EBA’s membership comprises national biogas associations, institutes and companies from over 20 countries all across Europe. The member associations cover the majority of producers, companies, consultants and researchers in the field of biogas within Europe. EBA’s strategy defines three priorities: establish biogas as an important part of Europe’s energy mix, promote source separation of household waste to increase the gas potential and support the production of biomethane as vehicle fuel.

  • Empowering the next generation of policy influencers 🎓 EBA Policy Officer Lucile Sever delivered yesterday an insightful class on European Lobbying to 22 students at the Université de Tours (France). During the class, Lucile provided an overview of the main actors involved in the EU decision-making process and explained the workings of the ordinary legislative procedure. She also shared practical tips and strategies for effective lobbying, taking as an example the Soil Monitoring Law, and emphasised the critical role of ethics in lobbying practices. Lucile also highlighted essential lobbying skills: 🔹 Monitoring and analysing policies 🔹 Building a unified position 🔹 Convincing policymakers effectively And one golden rule: networking is essential! Thank you to the Université de Tours for the opportunity to connect with these future policy professionals.

During her #hearing, Teresa Ribera made it clear: the EU must balance ambitious climate targets with practical, fair solutions. “We need to honour our commitment to fulfil a decarbonised European economy by 2050. We have time, but not so much, and we need to do many things in a very short period of time in many different sectors.", said Teresa Ribera. But here is the key: there is no net zero without biogases! 💡 The biogas sector is ready to take on this challenge and plays a crucial role in tackling climate change: 🌱 Avoiding methane emissions on farms 🔄 Replacing fossil CO2 and fossil fuels in energy uses ⚡️ Supporting the growth of other renewables in the energy system “Looking beyond 2030, the EU climate and energy framework should actively support emissions reductions through biogas and biomethane systems by streamlining regulations and removing barriers to production, use, and trade.”, explains Anthony Lorin, EBA Senior Policy Analyst. #biogas #biomethane #NetZero

  • In yesterday’s hearing, Stéfane Séjourné outlined an ambitious vision for the Clean Industrial Deal, emphasising key cross-sectoral initiatives to support Europe’s green transition. These initiatives include simplifying regulatory frameworks, reducing permit delays, and lowering energy costs to help European industries adopt cleaner technologies. 🙌 One such technology with immense potential is biomethane: a game-changer in reducing the climate impact of industries. By replacing traditional fuels with biomethane, industries can cut emissions without changing their infrastructure. 📌 As Anthony Lorin, EBA Senior Policy Analyst, explains, “a critical step forward would be to achieve a Single Market for biomethane. Currently, the market remains fragmented, with significant barriers to cross-border trade. The new Commissioner should prioritise addressing these issues as part of the upcoming Single Market Strategy, which would lead to easier access to biomethane for industries.” #biomethane #biogas
