European Partnership for Democracy (EPD)
Public Policy Offices
EPD is the leading European #Democracy support network, bringing together 19 NGOs to advocate for democracy.
About us
The European Partnership for Democracy is an independent European non-profit organisation supporting democratic transformations outside the European Union. As a network of European civil and political society organisations working on democracy assistance, EPD advocates for a stronger presence of democracy support on the European Union's agenda and facilitates the exchange of knowledge and good practices in democratic transformations around the world. We do this through innovative methodologies based on the development of effective partnerships with organisations in third countries, and the facilitation of political and social dialogue. The EPD network is conceived as a community of practice, i.e. a group of organisations that work together because, by doing so, they can substantially improve the way they operate in the realm of democracy support and provide a comprehensive response to the needs of populations. This notion does not only apply to the EPD as a network and its institutional development, but also to all the actions and partnerships constructed under the EPD banner.

#Programmes 🧩 🗓️ On Monday, the EPD Network was pleased to join the African Union ECOSOCC and civil society partners to strategise on how to contribute to the African Union's theme of the year ‘‘Justice for Africans and People of African Descent Through Reparations’’. Why is this year’s theme so important? 🌍 The 2025 African Union Theme highlights the negative impact of colonisation and slavery while calling for reparations to address injustices like systemic racism, economic exclusion, and marginalisation. ⚖️ The EPD Network looks forward to contributing to this agenda through its Africa-based projects. 📢 AHEAD Africa The Charter Project Africa

#EPDNetwork🌐 💻 Big Tech companies are rolling back disinformation safeguards under the EU Code of Practice. Firms are dropping fact-checking and withdrawing their commitments. Democracy Reporting International explains how. Join the conversation 💬
Social media platforms are rolling back their efforts to fight disinformation ‼️ The European Commission has just published updated measures platforms are willing to undertake under the EU Code of Practice on Disinformation. The firms have been renegotiating these commitments now that the Code of Practice will become a strengthened Code of Conduct under the DSA. The biggest rollback? Spoiler alert! ➡️ Fact-checking support and collaboration Here are the most significant changes: 🔻 Overall, platforms reduced commitments by 31% 🔻 Google Ads, YouTube, Microsoft's LinkedIn, and Bing have completely withdrawn from fact-checker collaboration. 🔻 Meta and TikTok maintain their commitments to fact-checking for now. But their long-term support remains uncertain. 🔻 Other notable reductions were in measures to empower the research community and political ads. We regret that platforms are stepping back as the Code becomes a more authoritative mechanism. We remain a committed signatory and will continue to contribute our research and monitor compliance with the Code. Explore our carousel for more on the specific commitments each platform rolled back.
