European-Turkish Trade and Investment Council, ETTIC

The second 2024 visit of the Board of the European-Turkish Trade and Investment Council, ETTIC to the #EuropeanInstitutions and stakeholders in #Brussels earlier this week, reflects ETTIC’s commitment to stimulate an open dialogue between the #EU and #Türkiye, particularly in addressing shared challenges and opportunities in trade, investment and sustainability. Main focus point on the agenda remains the upgrading and modernization of the #CustomsUnion. To this end, several high level meetings with #Embassies of the different #EU member states took place, as well as a meetings with officials from DG Trade and the Türkiye desk of EEAS. 🤝 ETTIC, formally registered under the laws of #Belgium and approved by Royal Decree, has been founded exactly one year ago by several European - Turkish bilateral Chambers of Commerce and Industry, who recognize that enhancing trade and investment relations between Europe and Türkiye, will benefit both sides. The Board of ETTIC sincerely thanks the high level officials of the European Institutions and of the European - Turkish diplomatic networks for hosting us. This visit has proven to be very useful, particularly in setting concrete steps on our roadmap to a modernized Customs Union. The Board of the European-Turkish Trade and Investment Council, #ETTIC, met with the Minister of #Finance and #Treasury of Türkiye, Mehmet Simsek, at his office in #Ankara for an introduction and update of ETTIC. ETTIC is an initiative of the bi-lateral European Chambers of Commerce and Industry in Türkiye with the aim to advocate the interests of European investors in Türkiye at the European Institutions in Brussels and the public sectors and diplomatic networks in #Europe and #Türkiye. After detailed introductions and an update of ETTIC’s overal activities by the Chairperson of ETTIC, Dr. Markus C. Slevogt, intense discussions were held about the #CustomsUnion, particularly about the urgent need of its modernization and upgrade, which will result in a substantial benefit to both Türkiye and Europe. To convey congratulations for his new position and welcome him to #Türkiye, the Board of the European-Turkish Trade and Investment Council, ETTIC, invited H.E. Ambassador Thomas Ossowski, Head of the Delegation of the European Union to the Republic of Türkiye for a meeting in #Ankara. The Turkish Minister of #Industry and #Technology, Mehmet Fatih KACIR, invited the Board of the European-Turkish Trade and Investment Council, ETTIC in his office in #Ankara for an introduction and update on ETTIC, an initiative from the bi-lateral European Chambers of Commerce and Industry in #Türkiye. The meeting was also attended by Muhammet Mollamehmetoğlu, Advisor to the Minister, and H. Alper Alkaç of the Ministry of Industry and Technology. The President of ETTIC, Dr. Markus C. Slevogt, presented ETTIC’s mission and strategy, underlining the Council’s important role to further strengthen the relations with the European Institutions in #Brussels and #Ankara to promote and advocate the interests of the European trade and investments in #Türkiye. On the agenda were also ETTIC’s activities and next steps for upgrading the #CustomsUnion. With the new #EU power structure now in place, the ETTIC Board will visit the #EuropeanCommission in November. Fruitful discussions were held about the support of the Ministry and further institutional support from Türkiye, to make this upcoming #Brussels visit as successful and efficient as possible. The modernization of the #CustomsUnion is beneficial to #Europe and #Türkiye. It is on the top of the agenda of the European Turkish Trade and Investment Council, #ETTIC and was therefore the main focus during the two-day-visit of the ETTIC Board to the #EuropeanCommission in #Brussels. Constructive talks were held in productive meetings with #DGTrade, #DGConnect and #DGNear as well as other stakeholders. We thank all our counterparts for their time and valuable input.
