EUD Policy Manager is in Salzburg, Austria to give a capacity building training to the Austrian deaf community. 20 deaf people from all parts of Austria gathered to receive a training on human rights, the rights of deaf people and how to achieve their right at the national level through advocacy. We would like to warmly thanks our members from Austria, Österreichischer Gehörlosenbund (ÖGLB), Austrian Deaf Association, for their kind invitation.

We were honoured that EUD President Sofia Isari moderated an impactful panel discussion at the European Regional Disability Summit on 6th December in Berlin, Germany. During the session, “Driving Regional Commitments: Advancing Disability-Inclusive Development”, Sofia led discussions, exploring strategies and highlighting impacts in advancing the rights and inclusion of persons with disabilities. The session provided insights into how regional commitments can ensure "Nothing Without Us" becomes a reality for all. Last month, EUD Policy Manager Alexandre Bloxs attended the Public Employment Services Stakeholder Network Annual Meeting in Brussels. In his summary, Alexandre highlighted the importance of accessible employment services and policies that promote equal opportunities for Deaf individuals across Europe. EUD remains committed to advocating for inclusive employment solutions in line with Article 27 of the UNCRPD. On 20th November 2024, EUD hosted a webinar on including national sign languages in the European Charter for Regional and Minority Languages (ECRML). Moderated by Paal Richard Peterson, experts and NADs explored: - Protecting sign languages under the CRPD and ECRML. - Recognising sign languages in the ECRML framework. - EUD’s push for EU official language status. This event highlighted the cultural and linguistic importance of sign languages across Europe. EUD, through its Policy Manager Alexandre Bloxs, got the great opportunity to introduce its work and the European deaf community to the newly appointed Commissioner for Equality, Preparedness and Crisis Management, Ms Hadja Lahbib at the European Parliament. During the conversation, Commissioner Lahbib expressed her interest in collaborating with EUD to improve the situation of deaf people during humanitarian crises and emergencies. We are looking forwards to pursue the excellent collaboration we had with her predecessor, Ms Helena Dalli, to build a safe and inclusive European society for deaf people in their national sign languages. We are wishing to Commissioner Lahbib an excellent start to her mandate and are looking forward to a close partnerships for the next five years.

📅 Today we are at the @EuropeanParliament to celebrate the International Day of Persons with Disabilities! We collaborated with European Disability Forum, @edcfanbe and Autism Europe as a common voice when meeting the European Parliament President Roberta Metsola. We highlighted the importance of having an EP fully accessible to deaf people through their #NationalSignLanguages, the situation of #WomenWithDisabilities and the meaningful implementation of the #EuropeanDisabilityCard. Today at the EUD office, Policy Manager Alex Bloxs is leading a session with our Board Members to brainstorm strategies for the future of the Citizens, Equality, Rights and Values (CERV) Programme.
