Last week, the Global Automated Vehicle ecosystem came together in Seoul 🇰🇷 for the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) Informal Working Group on Automated Driving System to discuss and progress the UN Regulation (UNR) and Global Technical Regulation (GTR) for Automated Driving. Driven by a common goal of improving and enhancing #RoadSafety, very refreshing to see Governments, industry, academia, and NGOs coming together in the true spirit of collaboration. Thank you to our co-chairs Michael Braisher, Ezana Wondimneh, Maria Cristina Galassi, Matsukawa-san, Chen Chunmei, and Ibrahima Sow for their excellent running of the meeting and ensuring progress is made as we move towards our 2026 target date for publication. We made significant progress across various aspects of the regulation, thanks to all our OPI leaders: Pete Edwards, Jean-Michel Roy, Espedito Rusciano, Biagio Ciuffo, Rino Brouwer, Matsukawa-san, for all their efforts in bringing the discussions to convergence, with our Secretary OPI John Creamer's support 😉 Huge thank you to our hosts in South Korea for the incredible hospitality and super arrangements for the meetings. 🙏 And it was great to catch up with Changgi Lee who is back to the Korean Transport Ministry after a successful time at OECD - OCDE ITF - International Transport Forum. From transport policy to #Selfdriving vehicles to politics, never a dull conversation between us. And the ITF - International Transport Forum report on Automated Vehicles on which we collaborated will be out soon... watch this space! Another busy November month for our 𝐒𝐚𝐟𝐞 𝐀𝐮𝐭𝐨𝐧𝐨𝐦𝐲 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐡 𝐆𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐩 at WMG, University of Warwick as we explored some new adventures. Lots happening here… 1️⃣ 𝐄𝐯𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬 & 𝐌𝐞𝐞𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬 🌟 Super honoured to have been invited by the 𝐈𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐚𝐧 𝐇𝐢𝐠𝐡 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐢𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧, 𝐋𝐨𝐧𝐝𝐨𝐧 & UK India Business Council on the occasion of the National Education Day for a panel session on academia-industry 🇬🇧 🇮🇳 collaboration. Thoroughly enjoyed the session & discussion with my co-panelists: Kevin McCole, Pratap Bose and Param Shah,. 🌟 Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE) Automobile Division Board meeting brilliantly chaired by Lisa Bingley as we discussed the Institution’s activities, priorities, and next steps in the automotive world. 🌟 Catching up with my friends and collaborators Nakashima-san and Kureta-san in Tokyo 🇯🇵 , discussing safe maritime autonomy and collaboration. Energised by the depth and intensity of the discussions. 🌟 ISO - International Organization for Standardization TC22 SC33 WG9 meeting in Tsukuba 🇯🇵 , bringing together global experts as we discussed international standards on testing of automated driving systems. Collaboration and inspiration in equal measures... 🌟 Getting an up close and sneak peek into the super impressive testing facilities at 𝐉𝐚𝐩𝐚𝐧 𝐀𝐮𝐭𝐨𝐦𝐨𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐞 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐡 𝐈𝐧𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐭𝐮𝐭𝐞 (𝐉𝐀𝐑𝐈). Congrats to Adrian H. for the successful completion of his doctoral thesis in October this year on the topic of "Efficient Human Gesture Recognition in Automated Driving" 🎉 During his time at our institute, he was part of the project INTUITIVER and EVENTSproject22. In his research, he developed methods to detect gestures of humans in traffic that is beneficial for autonomous driving. Additionally, he maintained our institute's GPU clusters and conducted several other engineering tasks related to our institute and the projects. Adrian was supervised by Vasileios Belagiannis, former Professor of our institute and now Professor at the FAU Erlangen-Nürnberg. We wish Adrian all the best in his upcoming journey 😀 Picture (from left ➡ right): Prof. Dr.-Ing. Jian Xie, Prof. Dr. Vasileios Belagiannis, Dr.-Ing. Adrian H., Prof. Dr.-Ing.
