Congratulation to all members of the College of Commissioners on their appointments!
FERMA looks on this Commission as the #competitiveness Commission.
Or, looking at it another way, the Commission charged with making Europe more competitive again!
For now, here are FERMA’s views on the key players for our network, based on the 2024-2029 European Commission’s programme:
🌐 Henna Virkkunen will work on strengthening cybersecurity across the EU while consolidating legislation where they overlap, starting with the telecom sector with a new Digital Network Act. We welcome these initiatives, and we recommend developing common EU cybersecurity standards to improve EU-wide cyber risk management and business insurability.
🌐 Hadja Lahbib will lead on developing and implementing a European Preparedness Union Strategy. She rightly stated that preparedness is the responsibility of all of society, and professional Risk Managers can contribute their expertise to build a more resilient EU economy. We call on the Commission to offer tools and guidelines to help enterprises cope with supply shocks in times of crisis, and to involve Risk Managers in drafting future preparedness policies.
🌐 Wopke Hoekstra will lead the work on a European Climate Adaptation plan. We welcome this risk-based climate adaptation approach, which is based on the EU Climate Risk Assessment. We urge the Commission to build on the EU Climate Resilience Dialogue and set up an Expert Group on Climate Protection Gaps to address the challenges companies face in insuring transition-related risks.
🌐 Maria Luís Albuquerque will guide the financial sector towards unlocking the full potential of the EU economy. Insurance plays a vital role in growth, by enabling enterprises to take risks and innovate. We call on the Commission to consider the implications of new policies on the availability of insurance coverage.
We look forward to working with the Commission on these priorities and others, in order to build together a more prepared, resilient and competitive EU economy.
