FUTERRO

Plastics Manufacturing

A global producer of bio-RENEW-able PLA.

About us

Futerro, is a well-established Belgian Company and was the first to work on the development of lactic acid and Poly-Lactic Acid (PLA) as early as 1992. Futerro has extensive industrial experience in lactic acid and PLA production on different substrates and is continuously upgrading its processes to produce high quality PLA with improved properties: RENEW™. Futerro's first industrial plant produces a wide range of RENEW™ for all existing applications with an annual capacity of 100 000 tons making Futerro the second largest PLA producer in the world. In addition to this core business, Futerro also supports its customers in the development of new RENEW™ grades for specific applications to help them in their industrial, ecological, and sustainable transition and offers a unique recycling process : LOOPLA®.

  • 🌍 Empowering the Next Generation of Green Innovators! 🌱   FUTERRO was proud to participate in the Forum des Métiers 2025, organized by Caux Seine agglo and Caux Seine developpement. This event introduced visitors, especially young minds, to a variety of professions and training programs, helping them make informed career choices. We welcome this initiative by the agglomeration, which allows the local population to learn about and understand the professional opportunities and possibilities offered in their region, Région Normandie. The territory's enthusiasm, dynamism and support make it a highly attractive area for companies, students and workers.   🌱 At Futerro, we’re committed to guiding and inspiring future talents who are ready to take on the challenge of shaping a #sustainable future. Every conversation we had reinforced why we’re passionate about driving the green industrial #transition and the #bioeconomy.   ✨ A huge thank you to everyone who stopped by our booth and asked questions. Your enthusiasm for #biobased solutions and your desire to make a real impact were truly inspiring.   👉 Stay tuned for more updates, and for opportunities to join our team!

  • Last week, we presented the whole #PLA (polylactic acid) lifecycle, but this week, let's focus on the foundation of PLA: #LacticAcid.   Totally natural, lactic acid can be found in yogurt or even in the human body. Using the fermentation of sugar extracted from biomass, lactic acid can be produced industrially.   Lactic acid is considered a #PlatformMolecule: it is used as a base, or a building block, to create a wide range of higher-value biobased chemicals and materials.   𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐝𝐨𝐞𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐮𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐲 𝐦𝐞𝐚𝐧? Biobased platform molecules like lactic acid have the potential to #reinvent petrochemicals as a whole, opening up numerous opportunities to reduce dependence on fossil fuels and develop new applications. Their versatility and sustainability make them a crucial element in the transition to a #greenchemistry and #circulareconomy.   ➡️ Watch the video to discover some of the applications derived from lactic acid.

  • 🌍 𝟐𝟎 𝐲𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐬 𝐚𝐠𝐨, 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐥𝐝 𝐬𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐝 𝐧𝐞𝐰 𝐚𝐦𝐛𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 On 16 February 2005, the Kyoto Protocol came into force, marking an unprecedented global cooperation dynamic in the fight against climate change. 👥 178 countries united to lay the foundation for a cleaner future.   🚀 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐞 𝐢𝐬 𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐰𝐚𝐲, 𝐛𝐮𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐣𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐧𝐞𝐲 𝐢𝐬 𝐟𝐚𝐫 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫. The planet need solutions to ensure a sustainable future for generations to come : we must reinvent how we produce and how we consume.   At FUTERRO, we're contributing to this transition by developing and producing bio-based platform molecules and plastic solutions like PLA —a circular, sustainable alternative to traditional fossil-based plastics. 🌱♻️   To create a meaningful impact, we must combine these innovative approaches with broader collective efforts.   👉 What changes do you think are crucial to accelerating the fight against climate change? Let’s hear your thoughts and join the conversation on how we can create impactful solutions for a sustainable world!   #KyotoProtocol #ClimateChange #Sustainability #RenewableEnergy #Bioplastics #Futerro #EcologicalTransition #Innovation

  • 𝐃𝐢𝐬𝐜𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐒𝐜𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐁𝐞𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐝 𝐏𝐋𝐀'𝐬 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧! 🌿   Let's deep dive into its impressive journey from #biomass to #bioplastic: • 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐡: This is the initial raw material, often extracted from plants like corn or wheat. • 𝐋𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐜 𝐀𝐜𝐢𝐝: Through fermentation, starch is converted into lactic acid, a versatile platform molecule. • 𝐋𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐝𝐞: In an intermediate step, lactic acid is transformed into lactide, a key building block for PLA. • 𝐏𝐋𝐀: PLA (polylactic acid) is finally obtained with the polymerisation of lactide.   PLA is a promising #alternative to traditional fossil-based plastics with numerous #sustainable attributes: • Biobased • Circular • Non-toxic • Limited Carbon Footprint   Just like other plastics, PLA can be transformed through various processes to create useful objects. For example, you can wear a T-shirt made of PLA! 👕   𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐞𝐧𝐝-𝐨𝐟-𝐥𝐢𝐟𝐞?   PLA's life is far from over when it becomes waste: as a #circular material, it can be treated in different ways: • Industrial Composting • Mechanical Recycling • Chemical Recycling, using our patented technology LOOPLA   As you can see, it truly is an impressive journey from biomass to bioplastic! 🌟
