Reflecting on the "sustainable roof" project completed in the summer of 2024: 🌱In Vietnam, the population has to deal with long and intense summers, which has an influence on their way of living and thermal comfort. Usually, a lot of air conditioning is used to cool the houses, which demands a lot of electricity. Therefore, this Humasol team did some research on two optional passive cooling methods, reflective and green roofs. Here’s what the team achieved: 🙌 Provided 25 low-income houses with reflective coating 🔧 Measured the effectiveness of the reflective coating 📚 Did ambient measurements for simulations 🌿Made a design for a green roof solution on low-income houses It was amazing to see the residents' enthusiastic reactions, what an exciting project! 🙌 Special thanks to ❤️the partners, Hanoi University of Civil Engineering (HUCE) and KU Leuven ❤️sponsor Provincie Vlaams-Brabant ❤️and project students, Stephan Fuentes Bühler, Job De Leener and Eva Vanhulle

Reflecting on the "Entente irrigation” project completed in the summer of 2024: 🌱In Senegal, 19% of the population faces hunger, but in Ziguinchor, where our project is located, that number is a staggering 68%. One of the biggest challenges on local farms is the inefficient irrigation system. Workers currently fill basins with water by hand, which takes up valuable land and time. What the Humasol team has achieved: 💧New irrigation system installed for 3.3 hectares of farmland 🌿Storage basin (~114m3) completed ☀️ Installed 2 solar systems: one with 2 solar panels and another with 4, providing sustainable energy for the water pumps Huge thanks to ❤️our partner Entente ❤️ sponsor @ovo.be ❤️ and project students Mali Van Cleemput, Pieter Steelant, Tom Paquet and Anouk Menten to make this possible!

Reflecting on the "Hope for Girls and Women” project completed in the summer of 2024: 🌱Hope for Girls and Women provides shelter and support for girls and women who have survived genital mutilation, child marriage, domestic violence and more. Beyond safe housing, the organization ensures that these girls can pursue education or learn valuable trades. However, frequent power outages have been a major challenge, leaving them unable to study at night and feeling unsafe. This summer, Humasol stepped in to help💡: 🌞 Installed two solar power systems with batteries 🔌Added extra lighting and outlets for safety and convenience 📚 Created study corners, giving the girls a safe space to learn 🍳 Provided electric stoves and kettles, promoting healthier cooking and reducing costs 💡Developed an economic plan to rent portable lamps, ensuring long-term solar system maintenance Special thanks to ❤️our sponsors Materné Verzekert, @lc04genk, @scouts60stesintjozef and @zonta_ieper ❤️partner Hope for Girls and Women ❤️ and project students: Marie Peuskens, César Materné, Simon Forrez and Jolien De Mars for making this possible!

Reflecting on the "Entente PV & Biogas" project completed in the summer of 2024: 🌱 Entente Diouloulou is a community farm dedicated to achieving food security and sustainable development, empowering local farmers to become self-sufficient. With a strong focus on improving productivity, the organization provides technical support, agricultural inputs and essential tools, here is where Humasol steps in to further enhance living conditions.💪 The initiatives the Humasol team took: 🌞 Installed a 12-panel solar PV system 💡Successfully set up two biogas digesters, now supplying the community kitchen with clean energy ♻️ Shared knowledge on responsible waste management with a helpful guide ❄️Developed plans for a cooling room for fruits and vegetables (though delayed, locals now have a manual to build it themselves). Humasol continues to support the community in making their cooling room a reality!
