MINOTAUR, a Horizon Europe project led by Luleå University of Technology and European partners, will develop novel autonomous exploration drilling concepts that will transform ore exploration. 🌱 Why MINOTAUR? Traditional mining relies on extensive surface drilling, which is: Environmentally taxing – causing dust, noise, and disruption. Costly and inefficient – requiring many tests with no guarantees. MINOTAUR’s robots will explore underground autonomously, reducing environmental impact and enabling smarter decisions along the contour of ore body It will help to identify the volumetric estimation of ore body as well as help in making more informed decision for extraction planning. 🤖 Innovative Technology Autonomous robots for subterranean exploration. 🌍 Kicking Off the EU-Funded Minotaur Project ⛏️ 🗣 We’re excited to announce the successful launch of the EU-funded Minotaur Project, focused on fostering innovation in the mining sector. The project’s kick-off meeting took place on 14–15 November 2024 in Brussels, hosted by the IMA-Europe (Industrial Minerals Association - Europe), one of the project's partners 🤝 🚀 The Minotaur Project aims to develop innovative exploration technology for deep land deposits. It is reasonable to assume that low cost deposits have been exploited in the early stage of each project in order to minimise technical and financial risks. Technology helps to mitigate such higher costs and risks with more efficient equipment and energy usage, higher recovery techniques and better resources utilisation to create at the same time a safer place for work and minimise environmental impact. 📈 The meeting brought together an impressive consortium of stakeholders from across Europe, including industry leaders, researchers, and policymakers, to outline the project's roadmap and set priorities for the coming months ✅ 🤝 We extend our gratitude to all participants for their valuable input and engagement. IMA-Europe Conference 2024 in Brussels 🌍 In my future role as president of Cerame-Unie Unie, I participated at the #IMAEuropeConference 2024. At a round table, we discussed Industrial Minerals as European Assets for a resilient and competitive industry and the importance of the Clean Industrial Act for ceramics. However, it all starts with the access to the right quantities of mineral raw materials as they play a crucial role in various industry supply chains. Europe must remain an active player on the global market which means less complexity and significantly accelerated permitting processes for mining activities.
