The Automotive Chiplet Forum (ACF) gathered global leaders in automotive innovation at KLA in Ann Arbor. A key highlight was imec’s announcement of star (Semiconductor Talent and Technologies for Automotive Research), a major global initiative aimed at advancing research and development (R&D) in automotive semiconductors as well as workforce development. As Bart Plackle, VP of Automotive at imec, noted, "The future of chiplet architecture is inevitable." The U.S. chapter of star, known as mstar, is embedded in Michigan's automotive ecosystem. Key founding partners of mstar include KLA the University of Michigan, Washtenaw Community College, General Motors, the Michigan Economic Development Corporation, and imec. ACF events moving forward will be exclusive to star members. Become a star member and access events, connect with industry leaders, and contribute to the future of chiplet architecture in autonomous and electric vehicles: https://ow.ly/qope50UhjZj The next ACF event is scheduled to take place at Arm in Cambridge, UK, on April 1-2, 2025.

Imec achieved a major leap in nanopore technology, establishing a scalable process to mass-produce solid-state nanopores using deep UV lithography - potentially reaching sub-10nm precision. This robust platform offers vast potential for innovation in numerous fields. Nanopores are set to transform proteomics with high-throughput single-molecule protein sequencing. Other exciting applications are reading DNA barcodes for protein detection, analyzing proteoforms, enabling DNA memory, and exploring the gut microbiome. Imec is seeking assay partners with strong chemistry expertise to test applications on the multi-pore array demonstrator that is under development (= a multi-pore array combined with fluidics and read-out electronics).
