  • 𝗖𝗔𝗦𝗘 𝗦𝗧𝗨𝗗𝗬 Heavy metals in groundwater can be of various origins. Understanding the solubilisation mechanisms is crucial to find the most effective treatment method. On a former sulfuric acid production site in Bilbao (Spain), remnants of the production process have been used to raise the lower part of the site. This part of the site is located near the Nervion river and its mouth into the Atlantic Ocean. As a consequent, this part of the Nervion river and the groundwater on the site are influenced by the tidal action of the ocean. On average, twice a day, aerobic saline sea water is entering the Nervion river and the saturated zone of the site under investigation. Besides, a net horizontal groundwater flow of anoxic fresh water in the direction of the river is taking place and a vertical percolation of aerobic rainwater through the unsaturated zone recharges the phreatic groundwater. As a result, the pyrite ash both above and below the groundwater table is exposed continuously to changing physico-chemical conditions. Solubilization of high amounts of heavy metals present in this pyrite ash threatens the groundwater and river water quality and consequently causes a significant risk of spreading. In order to better understand the solubilization mechanisms under these changing conditions and to find the most suitable reagent(s) for this purpose, laboratory tests were carried out as a first approach. To confirm the hypotheses, the selected reagent and its optimal dose, a pilot test on site was designed and executed. The result of our pilot test? 👉 https://kont.ly/c3fe7458

𝗖𝗔𝗦𝗘 𝗦𝗧𝗨𝗗𝗬 An air sparging and soil vapor extraction installation had been operating for several years for a volatile TPH and BTEX soil and groundwater pollution in the marl geology of the Paris Bassin. Last year, the monitoring showed a stagnation in groundwater concentrations around 20.000 µg/L for TPH and 8.000 µg/L for BTEX (mainly benzene). Given the presence of calcareous marl, the contractor had initially never considered a treatment with direct injections. Injectis was however contacted by the contractor to investigate possible optimization methods for this problem. Several technical optimizations of the available air sparging/soil vapor extraction system had been worked out. Besides, instead of a physical removal technique to remove the remaining volatile pollutants, an in situ degradation alternative was elaborated by Injectis, using the SPIN®injection technology to apply the reagents in the low permeability marl. After thorough analysis, the client opted for this proposed in situ treatment for the capillary fringe zone and the saturated soil between 7 and 10 m-bgl. How we succeeded? 👉 https://kont.ly/a0e22a3c

MEET JENS 👋 For almost 7 years, we have been counting on Jens Vandergeynst at Injectis. As a bachelor in agricultural and biotechnology, he gained experience in the agricultural sector, by running a farm and selling mineral compounds for animal feed. His big dream? Settling down in the soil remediation sector. In 2018, he enthusiastically made the leap to Injectis. Jens is very handy with machinery and picks up new information very quickly. These are essential skills in his job as a rig operator, as he is responsible for pilot injections and the transfer of the gathered technical information to the rest of the team. He enjoys the variety of the work and finds the pleasant mutual cooperation a plus. As one of our most experienced employees, he is a beacon of trust for the other colleagues. We all appreciate you very much as person and as colleague! Thanks for being here, Jens! #meetheteam #topteam #machineoperator

  • 🌍 Today is WORLD SOIL DAY ! 🌍 With Injectis, we work day in and day out to restore deteriated soils. In doing so, we hope to pass the soils on to our children in a cleaner way than we inherited it ourselves. This World Soil Day, the spotlight is on soil as a critical resource for life on Earth. Held annually on December 5th, the event raises global awareness about the need to protect and sustainably manage our soils. Healthy soils play a key role in maintaining biodiversity, reducing erosion and pollution, improving water filtration, and building resilient and sustainable food systems. They also contribute significantly to climate action through carbon sequestration. Endorsed by the UN and FAO, World Soil Day calls attention to soil’s vital role in ensuring food security, supporting livelihoods, and promoting human well-being. It’s a day to reflect on the importance of soil in the natural system and celebrate the actions being taken worldwide to safeguard it. #proud #welovewhatwedo #worldsoilday

  • MEET JAMES 👋 Since the beginning of July, James Delanoeye has strengthened the Injectis team. James is a geologist by training and has worked as an environmental geologist with various soil remediation specialists since 1993. As project leader and team leader at various engineering firms and business manager of Saneco, he was involved as author or final manager of various types of soil surveys and soil remediation projects. After many years in the research and design phase, he felt the time was right to move on to the real action: the execution phase of soil remediation works. Within the Injectis team, James will be the point of contact for new requests for tenders in the region north of Brussels. Given his keen interest in everything to do with execution, he will also regularly assist in the execution of injections and the preparation of new assignments. #topteam #geologist
