A big congratulations to our #MasterofSpaceStudies students who just won the 8th #CASSINIHackathon Belgium on EU Space for Defence & Security! Their project GODFEATHERS (Galileo-cOpernicus Drone Fleet for Enhanced Autonomous THreat Response and Security) used CEMS and GNSS data to control drone fleets for autonomous natural/manmade threat responses. We know they will do great in the upcoming EU finale! 🛰️ 🌍 🚨

🚨 PhD vacancy alert! 🔭 ✨ PhD position on the topic of scientific exploitation of the Mercator telescope: The project will leverage large observing programmes at the Mercator telescope to address two important issues related to the stellar structure and evolution of single and binary stars, while using binaries as privilege laboratories: (i) the discrepant values of stellar mass estimates between different techniques, and (ii) the search for a large population of main sequence binary interaction products that can be used to calibrate the end product of stable mass transfer. https://lnkd.in/eJ-PVb7D

Last month, we finished the construction of the domes for the MARVEL instrument and today we started with the installation of the first 3 telescopes. MARVEL is located next to the Mercator telescope at the Roque de los Muchachos Observatory on La Palma (Canary Islands, Spain) and consists of four 80-cm telescopes, connected via optical fibers to an ultra-stable high-resolution spectrograph. This spectrograph is still under construction at the Institute of Astronomy of KU Leuven (Belgium) and will move to the observatory in the course of 2025, together with the 4th telescope. The main focus of MARVEL will be high-precision radial-velocity measurements for determining the orbit, mass and density of exoplanets (planets orbiting other stars than the Sun). https://lnkd.in/eD5tNhXY https://lnkd.in/eZWQbm9N #MARVELtelescopes
