The winner of the Mülheim Water Award 2024 has been announced! The MWA was presented for the ninth time. This time, the jury chose a project from Flanders as the winner. The award winners have developed a system that enables the digital monitoring of water quality throughout Flanders in real time. Mülheim's Lord Mayor Marc Buchholz, as patron, presented the award at the Mülheim Water Analysis Seminar. The award includes a €10,000 prize sponsored by RWW mbH and GERSTEL GmbH & Co. KG. The ‘Internet of Water Flanders: from water quality sensing to action’ project involves the development of a network of around 300 water quality sensors at more than 220 locations throughout Flanders, the data from which will be collated on an IoT Internet of Things data platform. Both real-time and historical data are publicly accessible via the website www.waterinfo.be. The platform offers a combination of physical measurements such as temperature or pH value and water quality data. One positive aspect to emphasise is that data from various interest groups such as water suppliers, wastewater disposal companies, authorities, ministries and research institutions could be brought together. Another feature of the project was the development of various warning apps, which have already proven themselves in practical use. The project was submitted by Marleen Spiliers from the Flemish water supply company De Watergroep as the leading applicant in a group of Belgian-Dutch applicants. This also includes Nele Desmet, Piet Seuntjens (VITO), Youri Amerlinck (Aquafin), Marcel Zevenbergen (Imec) and Pieter De Graef (VMM). Congratulations to the winning team! 🏆 #mwa204 #wateraward #iww #gerstel #rww
