An ODD defines the specific conditions where an automated driving system is designed to operate—such as weather, road type, traffic conditions, and time of day. For instance, an autonomous vehicle’s ODD might restrict operation to highways, during daylight, and in clear weather. The focus is shifting toward robustness on-road evaluations, including #ADAS from Speed Assistance (e.g. #SLIF) to Adaptive Cruise Control (#ACC), Lane Support Systems (#LSS), and beyond. 2025 barely started but the IVEX teams have done so much already 🤩 We started the year organizing a booth at CES, at the West Hall, which is the center of the automotive industry for a few days a year. Afterwards we went on a mission to Silicon Valley to discuss how IVEX tech can support engineers and managers from established and emerging automotive companies. 🌉 🚗 🚙 We finished the mission visiting the DOT Department of Transportation in Washington where we could discuss the new advances in automotive testing technology. It was incredible to meet and see again so many interesting people and friends from everywhere in the world. 🚘 Shared Autonomous Vehicles Are No Longer a Futuristic Dream—What’s Next? A McKinsey & Company article says that from Beijing to San Francisco, shared autonomous vehicles (AVs) are already reshaping urban mobility. With Level 4 AVs becoming more sophisticated, the focus is now shifting beyond technology to affordability, safety, accessibility, and sustainability. ✅ Affordability vs. Profitability For shared AVs to take off, they must be cheaper or more convenient than traditional transport—while remaining profitable for stakeholders. The good news? Costs could drop from $8.20 per mile today to $1.30 by 2035 as fleets scale up and technology improves. ✅ Building Trust in Safety Despite advancements, consumer skepticism remains. 53% of surveyed consumers cite safety concerns as a key barrier to adoption. AV leaders must prioritize transparent safety reporting, governance, and public education to gain trust. ✅ Expanding Accessibility AVs can empower older adults and people with disabilities, but only if designed with inclusivity in mind. Wheelchair-accessible vehicles and partnerships with community organizations are steps in the right direction. ✅ Maximizing Sustainability Most AVs are electric, but increased fleet sizes could worsen congestion and "deadhead miles" (empty trips). Smart deployment strategies and green supply chains will be essential to minimizing emissions. ✅ The Road Ahead Tech breakthroughs have gotten us this far, but for shared AVs to truly transform mobility, industry leaders must fine-tune their business models, regulatory frameworks, and user experience.
