👋 Meet Corinne Durand Growing up in the Pyrenees, France, Corinne’s childhood was all about exploring valleys, spotting wildlife, and immersing herself in nature’s beauty. But her real passion for primates began when she first saw orangutans on TV as a young girl—“I was mesmerized,” she says. And when you say primates, you say Dr. Jane Goodall, who quickly became a true inspiration for Corinne. 🌳 After taking part in a few tree-planting events, Corinne was inspired to join @jgibelgium as a volunteer to help create a positive change. “The best part, you ask?” 🥰 ”Seeing people of all ages and backgrounds come together at tree-planting events, rolling up their sleeves, getting muddy, and leaving with big smiles, knowing they’ve made a difference.” You can make a difference too! 🐒 Chimp Fact 🐒 Did you know that chimpanzees can learn ASL (American Sign Language)? It all started with Washoe, the first non-human to learn to communicate via ASL, mastering over 350 signs. She even managed to pass on some signs to her adopted son later on. By learning ASL, chimpanzees in captivity can express themselves and interact more meaningfully with their caregivers. 🌳 Meet Sclerocarya birrea, known as the Marula or “Elephant Tree” 🐘 Beloved by elephants who feast on its bark, branches, and fruit, the Marula is more than just a treat for wildlife. 🍈 Each year, the Marula harvest offers essential income for rural families, especially women. The delicious fruits are transformed into juice, jams, and the traditional marula beer 🍺, while the nuts are carefully cracked open to release oil-rich seeds. This oil is both edible and deeply moisturizing, making it a prized ingredient in cooking, cosmetics, and skincare worldwide. 💆 With its tremendous economic and cultural importance, the Marula is a protected species in South Africa—a true symbol of resilience and sustainability. Many people came out with smiles on their faces to help us plant 3000 trees for Forest in one Day in the company of Luminus and SYLVA NOVA Forestry.
