Our Kicker-in-Chief, Delphine Heenen, had an inspiring 💡 and productive week at the ITCC (Innovative Therapies for Children with Cancer) Annual Meeting in Paris! 🥖 The ITCC is a remarkable network of 67 hospitals 🏥 across 17 countries, all dedicated to advancing early-phase clinical trials and enhancing our understanding of childhood cancer. Their ultimate goal? Delivering better and more effective treatments 💊 for children with cancer. 💪💛 Every year, Delphine joins this meeting alongside other committed patient advocates to: 1️⃣ Identify blind spots 🕵️♀️ in research 🔬, focusing on improvements that truly matter to patients and their families. 2️⃣ Offer fresh perspectives 💭 that inspire researchers and doctors to kickstart impactful projects. After the ITCC Annual Meeting, we stayed an extra day to focus on strategy with Childhood Cancer International - Europe. 🌍 We brainstormed on topics such as: ✅ Recruiting and training more patient advocates to strengthen our impact. ✅ Shaping joint perspectives on critical issues, including: - Access to innovative medicines. - Big data and artificial intelligence. - Innovation, patient rights, and data privacy. Our mission is clear: amplify the patient perspective to drive meaningful change in childhood cancer research and care. Last Friday, our Kicker-in-Chief, Delphine Heenen, had the honour to speak 🗣️ at the Young BSPHO, the Belgian Society of Paediatric Haemato-Oncology Symposium 2024, a training event specifically aimed at young doctors specialising in paediatric oncology. We’re proud to present WONDERS, a unique digital project created in collaboration with DEMAIN Art, in support of KickCancer. Inspired by the theme WONDERS, 30 Belgian artists 👩🎨 have crafted over 140 unique artworks—each one a testament to their talent 🎨 and imagination 💭. This theme reflects the groundbreaking approaches 🔬 needed to improve the existing treatments 💊 for rare childhood cancers—efforts that often feel like small miracles ✨ From 1–22 December 2024, these works will be available on DEMAIN’s online platform at a fixed price of 475 euros. Yesterday, our Kicker-in-Chief Delphine spoke as representative of Childhood Cancer International - Europe at a special event in the European 🇪🇺 Parliament called "How we can improve care for children with cancer across Europe" 🌍 In preparation of Children's Rights Day, we came together with policymakers, doctors 🧑⚕️, researchers 👩🔬, and patient advocates to discuss important issues like: 💡 Making sure all children in Europe can get the best possible care 🩺, no matter where they live. 💡 Improving research so we can find better treatments 💊 for childhood cancer. 📢 Nominations are being accepted for the 2025 FIGHT KIDS CANCER & St. Baldrick’s Foundation Arceci Innovation Award! We know together we can make a bigger impact for kids with #cancer. In this spirit, the selection process for this new European award will be administered by the St. Baldrick's Foundation, funded and awarded by FIGHT KIDS CANCER. Researchers must be nominated; direct applications are not accepted. Nominees to be considered will be asked for more information. Criteria for selection include innovation, quality of the science, and potential for clinical impact. One to two awards for impactful & innovative pediatric cancer research will be made to researchers working in an institution based in one of these countries: AT, BE, BG, HR, CY, CZ, DK, EE, FI, FR, DE, GR, HU, IS, IE, IL, IT, LV, LT, LU, MT, NL, NO, PL, PT, RO, SK, SI, ES, SE, CH, UK. No citizenship requirement. Awards are €250,000 a year for 4 years (€1 million in total). Nominations are due Dec 13, 2024. For eligibility and nomination requirements, email grants@stbaldricks.org.
