It's been a long time coming... My #PhD dissertation has been published by Cambridge University Press! The (very hashtaggable) book is called '#Music #Contracts in the #Streaming Age: #Law and #Policy in the #EuropeanUnion and the #UnitedKingdom'. It is available via https://lnkd.in/eV5JsXFG. It analyses how the law affects contracts between musicians and their commercial counterparties, both in theory and in practice. And it is the final step in a journey that started 6 years ago. Thank you to all for the support along the way, with a special shoutout to promoter Evelyne Terryn and copromoter Marie-Christine Janssens, jury members Lionel Bently K.C. (Hon.), Fabienne Brison, Séverine Dusollier and Hendrik Vanhees, book blurb provider Frank Gotzen, and (importantly) all of my former cello teachers, including Jan Van Kelst, Jaap Kruithof and David Cohen. And for those of you who are wondering who the Vanherpe mentionees are in the acknowledgement section, it's MVPs Pieter Vanherpe and Catherine Waelkens, Liesbeth Vanherpe, Elleen Vanherpe, Rogier Vanherpe, Willemien Vanherpe and Pieternel Vanherpe. And yes, we come as a package deal. Feeling very humble in the company of Ingrid and other colleagues in this category, and extremely grateful for being shortlisted as CS researcher of 2024. I consider it a recognition of the -- important, but not always easy -- role of legal scholars in cybersecurity research. Usually being outnumbered (by far) by the technical experts in project consortia, CiTiP's privacy & security researchers succeed in increasing awareness about, and driving towards compliance with, legal requirements, and help steer innovation in the right direction. I raise my hat to the current and previous generations of CiTiP'rs for their dedication to critical, yet pragmatic and out-of-the-box thinking, and for their commitment to fixing the bad reputation that lawyers sometimes have in an innovation context (cf. the adage "if you want to kill an idea without being identified as the assassin, ask the legal department to take a look at it"...): while the impact of your work is often hard to quantify, its impact on society is undeniable! #dreamteam 🙌 Centre for IT & IP Law (CiTiP) @KU Leuven Laura Drechsler Sofie Royer Pierre Dewitte Brendan Van Alsenoy Fanny Coudert Jef Ausloos Anna Buchta Eleni Kosta Els Kindt Damian Clifford Athena Christofi Plixavra Vogiatzoglou Christof Koolen Thomas Marquenie Ivo Emanuilov Koen Vranckaert Eyup K.
