Did You Know? 🌨️ Lime, derived from limestone, is a key material in road construction that significantly enhances road safety, especially during winter! ❄️ Here’s how it works: Improved Durability: Lime stabilizes the clay soils and base layers of roads, making them more resistant to water and frost. This reduces the formation of potholes and cracks, which are common hazards in winter. Enhanced Stability: Lime-treated soils have better load-bearing capacity, which means they can withstand the heavy traffic and harsh weather conditions typical of winter months. Decarbonization is one of our top priorities, and we are proud to lead the way with various initiatives, aiming at reducing our CO₂ footprint in the coming years. Did you already hear about our CalCC project which has been selected by the EU’s Innovation Fund? 🌏 Discover below the key facts about this Carbon, Capture and Storage (CCS) project: 🔹 The CalCC project aims to decarbonize our lime plant in Réty, France. 🔹 In collaboration with Air Liquide, this innovative project seeks to avoid around 600,000 tons of CO₂ emissions annually by 2028 - equivalent to the yearly emissions of 55,000 French households. 🔹 This would result in avoiding more than 80% of the plant’s emissions from entering the atmosphere. 🔹 In 2024, we have made progress on the engineering design approach and on various steps for environmental permitting. Low-carbon lime would allow the various sectors we serve - such as steel production, civil engineering and water treatment - to reduce their Scope 3 emissions. Curious about this project? Congratulations! 32% of you guessed correctly. ✨ Our latest solar park was launched end of 2023 in Belgium. Comprising 6,831 panels of 695W each and covering an area of approximately 4.4 hectares, this park produces around 4,700 MWh annually (equivalent to the consumption of around 2,300 Walloon households).
