At 4:30am, I left to Antwerpen-Noord to dive deeper into the world behind my graphs 📊, and by 7am, together with Beire van den Crommenacker, we were on our way to pick up wagons, ensuring they safely reached their final destination. 🚃 But this was not only a ride, it's about all the people on the field who do an exceptional job to make the Modal Shift a reality ⚡ They are the heart of the activities and nothing can be done without the amazing teams on the field ! Do you ever think about leaving your desk and explore your job from a completely different perspective? That’s what I did yesterday evening! My colleague Nick kindly welcomed me to join him during his shift. The scheduled drop-off and pick-up from ArcelorMittal may only be a short ride at 40km/h, but for me it was an eye opener on how we can better support our colleagues in the field and offer our clients the service they deserve. This afternoon, Evonik received a miniature locomotive from Lineas, and it's more than just a sweet gift! 🚂 While it may look like a playful souvenir, it contains an important message about the progress we are making together in responsible logistics. Thanks to the relaunch of our strategic rail connection with Evonik, we’ll be removing 5,700 trucks from the road every year. And this new weekly rail service isn't just about getting goods from A to B, but also about moving the entire supply chain towards a more sustainable future. As Tim Mertens from Evonik puts it: “This service shows that rail transport is THE sustainable solution, even for short-distance intermodal transport, and it fits perfectly with supply chains optimization.” Sometimes, it's the smallest gestures - like a tiny locomotive - that remind us that together, we can make big changes. Last week, we had the pleasure of welcoming a group of master students from Vlerick Business School to our Lineas Mainhub. As part of their "Operations Management" course, they had the opportunity to discover the world of rail logistics and to experience firsthand how we keep our customers' supply chains moving. The program included: 📊 A company presentation on our operational and supply chain strategies 🚶♂️ A guided tour of our Mainhub, showcasing the processes behind our rail freight operations ❓ A dynamic Q&A session where the students could challenge us with insightful questions Special thanks to Filip De Roover, Filip Degroote, Roel D'hondt, and Max Oomen for sharing their expertise and offering a behind-the-scenes look at our operations. It’s always energizing to engage with curious minds and bridge the gap between theory and practice!

Developing a new strategy means rethinking every part of your business...   Yesterday, at Logistiekdag 2024, Filip Degroote from Lineas and Siemen Reniers from ASV Consult teamed up to present how Lineas transformed in order to make rail an integral part of a sustainable, multimodal supply chain of the future. A few years ago, we realized that the traditional limitations of rail freight transport (such as low flexibility and limited digital visibility) were hindering our potential. We radically changed our strategy and set a new course with the help of ASV Consult: we focused on digitalization, improved transparency and put our customers at the heart of everything we do.   The results? Rail is becoming a greener, more resilient link in our customers' supply chains. In the presentation given during Logistiekdag, we shared our progress, highlighting how our adapted strategy and the effective implementation of it is driving positive change. 

Taking a look at the dynamic activity in the heart of the port of Zeebrugge, while sitting on a first-class train... Sounds epic, doesn't it? And it certainly is! Lineas was very proud to organize the Port of Antwerp-Bruges Rail Experience last Tuesday. It offered a unique, up-close insight into the heartbeat of logistics as we visited (and even drove through!) industries and warehouses. Along the way, we heard passionate talks about the companies we passed and witnessed their work in action – an incredible sight! Freight transport is growing across Europe - and so are CO2 emissions... A few days ago, we had the pleasure of hosting essenscia members at our Lineas site in Antwerp, to explore the role of sustainable freight in reversing this trend. We were honored to welcome Kristian Schmidt, Director Transport Land at the European Commission (DG MOVE), as our guest speaker. His insights reminded us of the challenges: “It’s hard to be green,” he said, but emphasized that “rail is part of the solution.” Given the EU’s ambitious target to double rail freight volumes by 2030, there’s still a lot of work to be done - but the destination is set. Throughout the day, we discussed essential steps to make this vision a reality, such as creating a level playing field between road and rail and ensuring the availability of neutral-operated shunting yards across Europe. Together, let's move towards a greener, more sustainable Europe! 

We are pleased to announce that Alban François has taken on the role of Chief Operating Officer (COO) as of November 1st. This means that Alban has moved from his previous role as Network Director, where he has successfully overseen Network & Resources Allocation since October 2022. "I am looking forward to this new challenge and to working closely with our teams to improve our operational efficiency and service quality," says Alban. A partnership with impact! Thanks to the long-standing partnership with Lineas, Heidelberg Materials France is able to implement sustainable and efficient freight transport solutions. Indeed, the carbon footprint of the volume transported by Lineas in 2023 for Heidelberg Materials France was 90% lower than if these volumes had been transported by road. Matthieu Aernouts, Cyril Richard and Anne Grandjean were recently welcomed by Bruno Pillon, Paul Porcheray, Jean-Marc Fabre and the team at Heidelberg Materials France headquarters in Paris, to celebrate this success - with a miniature locomotive, of course! 🚂🎉 In the movie below, Paul, Jean-Marc and Matthieu are happy to share their insights!
