Every Child Deserves A Healthy Start In Life! 🤱🏽 #ChildHealthWeek, held from November 12–19, aimed to raise global awareness about the challenges children face and the pressing need for solutions. At MaryaNutri, we share this mission by tackling malnutrition with sustainable, insect-fortified foods designed to support the health of children in vulnerable regions. Undernutrition remains one of the leading threats to children’s survival and development. Nearly half of all deaths in children under 5 are linked to undernutrition, which weakens immune systems, increases the severity of infections, and delays recovery. The first 1,000 days of a child’s life are critical. Poor nutrition during this period can lead to stunted growth, which affected 148.1 million children under 5 in 2022 (via UNICEF). Stunting not only hinders physical development but also impairs cognitive abilities, reduces school performance, and limits future opportunities. While #ChildHealthWeek has ended, the mission continues: ✔ Advocate for greater investments in health and nutrition systems. ✔ Champion efforts to protect children from preventable causes of malnutrition. ✔ Take action to ensure every child has the chance to grow, learn, and thrive. The Malnutrition Awareness Weeks 2024 (#ESPENMAW2024) are part of the pan-European Optimal Nutritional Care for All campaign, advocating for the widespread implementation of optimal nutritional care to improve health and well-being globally. The European Nutrition for Health Alliance (ENHA) notes that 20 million EU citizens remain at risk for malnutrition. The time to act is NOW. This cause resonates deeply with Maryams’s mission at MaryaNutri: Addressing malnutrition by creating nutrient-dense, insect-fortified foods specifically designed for at-risk populations. Our products provide sustainable instant nutrition, helping vulnerable children and adults access the sustenance they need to thrive. MaryaNutri, the startup of Phd Student Maryam Imbumi, had the privilege of joining the Flanders Investment & Trade (FIT) convention at the Skyhall of Brussels Airport building connections with incredible FIT country representatives for Africa, Asia and the Middle East. We also had the opportunity to meet representatives from VLAIO - Flanders Innovation & Entrepreneurship, Flanders' FOOD, Ghent University, Stad Gent and many others. These connections are essential for our mission to tackle malnutrition among children and vulnerable communities. Presenting our mission to fight malnutrition in children and save lives with innovative, nutrient-rich solutions was a meaningful milestone for MaryaNutri.
