"We have been through a lot together, but the crisis we now face is unprecedented. International law and development cooperation are under attack", write Mira Milosevic and Zoé Titus. DW Akademie supports the Global Forum for Media Development (GFMD)'s call to uphold commitments to free expression, media freedom, journalism, media and digital rights communities:
📢 The suspension of U.S. foreign aid coupled with the tearing up of transatlantic alliances has sent shockwaves through humanitarian efforts, economic development, and democratic institutions worldwide. In our latest MediaDev Insider, Mira Milosevic and Zoé Titus raise the awareness about the critical need to protect independent journalism and call on philanthropies, governments, and multilateral institutions to uphold their obligations under international human rights law and the commitments they have made to the free expression, media freedom, journalism, media, and digital rights communities. 🔗 Read the full newsletter:https://lnkd.in/dy7E65NH #MediaDev

🇺🇦 Today marks three years since Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine. Global Forum for Media Development (GFMD) continues to stand in solidarity with Ukrainian independent media and journalists who remain on the frontlines of truth. As we mark this anniversary in the midst of the crisis caused by the U.S. aid freeze, it is more important than ever to recognise the crucial role that independent media has played throughout this war. Their reporting has been essential in documenting events, countering disinformation, and keeping communities informed. We are committed to advocating for long-term support for Ukrainian media and continue to organise regular information-sharing meetings to coordinate efforts and explore sustainable solutions. Independent journalism is essential, and its resilience must be reinforced. #StandWithUkraine #PressFreedom #JournalistsMatter #MediaDev

The Lviv Media Forum team has created and published an open database of Ukrainian fixers on the Reporting Ukraine Guide platform. It aims to support international media professionals planning assignments in Ukraine or seeking local producers by helping them find the right contacts. You can view the database via the link: https://lnkd.in/gp8gkf5z Until now, international journalists searching for fixers in Ukraine have relied primarily on personal recommendations or assistance from local partners. Reporting Ukraine Guide offers a more efficient solution—allowing users to save time and connect with fixers from various regions of Ukraine, with different language skills and services, like interpretation, organizing interviews and others. 🔸 “The chaotic search for contacts before a trip can be stressful. We want to simplify this process and help foreign reporters prepare for work in Ukraine without extra hassle. That’s why we have compiled a database of fixers and local producers, carefully verified the information, and ensured a user-friendly experience so that journalists can quickly find trusted professionals,” says Oleksandr Kyrylov, editor of Reporting Ukraine Guide. Fixer Network features an easy-to-use search tool with filters by keywords and criteria. Once a suitable fixer is found, users can contact them directly. The contact list will be regularly updated and expanded upon. The Reporting Ukraine Guide team welcomes feedback and suggestions, which can be submitted via the contact form on the website.
