About us

MedTech Europe’s mission is to make innovative medical technology available to more people, while helping healthcare systems move towards a sustainable path. MedTech Europe encourages policies that help the medical technology industry meet Europe’s growing healthcare needs and expectations. It also promotes medical technology’s value for Europe focusing on innovation and stakeholder relations, using economic research and data, communications, industry events and training sessions. MedTech Europe started as an alliance in October 2012 formed by two organisations - EDMA, representing the European in vitro diagnostic industry; and Eucomed, representing the European medical devices industry. Promoting a balanced policy environment MedTech Europe engages with EU regulators, politicians and other decision-makers to help shape policies to promote innovation for our growing healthcare needs and expectations. Demonstrating the value of medical technology MedTech Europe promotes to its members and the wider industry value-based innovations that support more sustainable healthcare systems. We use economic research to show the benefits of medical technology and we organise many initiatives to explain the value we bring to healthcare systems in Europe. We bring stakeholders together to discuss trends, issues and opportunities.

Spotlight on Cardiovascular Health in Brussels   Last week, MedTech Europe embarked on a critical visit to Brussels. The event brought together leaders from across the medical technology industry to meet with key stakeholders in the European institutions.    With cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) remaining the leading cause of death in Europe and an annual economic burden of €282 billion, this initiative aimed to: ✅ Advocate for EU prioritisation of cardiovascular health in the upcoming 2024-2029 mandate ✅ Raise awareness of the transformative role of medtech innovations in early detection, prevention, and patient-centered care ✅ Strengthen partnerships with EU policymakers to advance a comprehensive EU Cardiovascular Health Plan   This timely effort aligns with the increasing political attention to CVDs, highlighted in the mission letter to the new Health Commissioner Varhelyi and the Hungarian EU Presidency’s commitment to tackling this public health crisis. Even though the roadshow is a wrap, we remain committed to ensuring that medtech innovations play a central role in shaping an EU Cardiovascular Health Plan. Together, we can reduce the burden of CVD and enhance the health and quality of life for millions across Europe. 🌍 It's World Antimicrobial Awareness Week! 🌍 This year’s theme – "Educate. Advocate. Act now” – emphasises the need for all stakeholders to raise awareness and take action on the critical issues of of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) and healthcare-associated infections (HAIs). 💡 AMR and HAIs pose significant threats to global health. In the EU alone, 35,000 deaths annually are attributed to antimicrobial resistant infections. 🤝 Tackling this challenge takes a collaborative effort, including policymakers, healthcare professionals, patients, industry and the general public. 🔬 Our sector is at the forefront of this battle, providing essential tools to prevent, detect, monitor and manage infections and resistance. By leveraging medical technologies, we can significantly reduce the impact of these threats and safeguard our communities. On 20 November 2024, our CEO, Oliver Bisazza, participated in POLITICO Healthcare Summit’s spotlight discussion on “Getting the medical devices regulation right”.   During a very interactive discussion, the panellists agreed that patient safety is at the heart of the MDR and IVDR regulations, but certain measures must be taken to improve its efficiency.   Oliver outlined the challenges of the current #MDR and #IVDR framework on the #medtech sector, including the risk that up to 1 in 3 medical technologies may be discontinued unless action is taken now. “It is no surprise that innovation is going to other parts of the world. We are asking Europe to catch up on good examples.“   We are extremely supportive of the attention the EU Institutions are giving to addressing the challenges of the current framework, and we call on policymakers to take decisive action to ensure that innovation reaches patients and healthcare systems in Europe. #POLITICOHealthCare
