Vorige week nam Mezzo Energy ons mee op pad naar Amsterdam voor een bezoek aan The Waste Transformers | Turn your own food-waste into value. Zij bouwen biogasvergistingsinstallaties ter grootte van een zeecontainer. Het keukenafval van horeca en grootkeukens kan met deze installatie lokaal omgezet worden tot groene warmte, energie en bodemverbeteraar. We brachten een bezoek aan de productiesite te Velsen-Noord en gingen daarna een werkende installatie bekijken aan de Amsterdam Arena. Zo konden de enthousiaste partners van o.a. VVSG, IVAREM, Stad Mechelen, MIVAS, KMDA vzw die meekwamen, zelf ontdekken dat er van geur- en geluidsoverlast geen sprake was. Een interessant en inspirerend bezoek. 🚀 Yesterday, we took an exciting step forward with the Circular Kickstart Healthcare Challenge at dunden: our Antwerp health hub! Our innovative start-ups presented their 1.0 Living Lab proposals to an advisory panel of partners and experts. The extra bonus 🍒 was the coaching into the art of storytelling guided by the inspiring Stefaan Vandist. 🌟 🎭 The start-ups showed real mastery in skills like:  🔑 Pushing the “drama button” to amplify user-centric storytelling.  🎯 Crafting a living lab pitch (not just a sales pitch!).  🤝 Convincing potential healthcare organizations that their solutions directly address real, pressing challenges. 👏 Huge kudos to the teams for their progress! Now, the countdown is on for February 2025, when the real matching begins. Until then, it’s full steam ahead to refine those living lab proposals. 🌍 Voedselverspilling omzetten in energie en duurzame oplossingen voor de toekomst ♻️ Wereldwijd gaat een derde van al het voedsel verloren, wat een grote belasting vormt voor ons milieu. The Waste Transformers | Turn your own food-waste into value (TWT) pakt dit probleem bij de bron aan met hun innovatieve gecontaineriseerde vergisters. Deze units zetten lokaal voedselafval om in schone energie en mest, en vermijden daarbij de nadelen van grootschalige vergisters, zoals transportbewegingen, geurhinder en uitstoot. Samen met partners als IKEA en UEFA staat TWT klaar om een duurzame impact te maken in de IJmond. Door kleinschalige vergisters te gebruiken, worden per unit jaarlijks 300 kg voedselafval verwerkt, wat bijdraagt aan een CO₂-reductie van meer dan 1.800 ton. Het resultaat? Lokale oplossingen met een grote ecologische voetafdruk. 🌱 TWT werkt momenteel aan twee subsidieprojecten: - Onderzoek naar add-ons zoals een nitrificatie-unit, integratie met vertical farming, een off-grid systeem en een CO₂-separator. Subsidie: € 353.760 - Inrichten van een productielocatie voor grootschalige productie van TWT-units. Subsidie: € 844.798 Met deze ondersteuning gaat TWT de standaardisatie en modulariteit van hun technologie naar een hoger niveau tillen en bijhouden met de toenemende vraag naar duurzame, lokale afvalverwerking. Mezzo Energy can combine our Vacuum extraction system with our bio energy plant where we use it to convert local kitchen and food waste into green, sustainable, and renewable energy that you can use as a deduction on your energy bill. This video shows the kitchen waste vacuum system that was installed in a hospital and the two possibilities, either removal by a waste collector or, as described, our biodigestion installation to produce its own energy.
