📢 On November 27th, project coordinator Alessia Torre from Fondazione Bruno Kessler - FBK and technical manager Iván Ramos Diez from CARTIF attended online the General Assembly of the #HorizonEuropeProject HYDRA to present NEVERMORE. ⚡ The hydra Project aims to better understand how using hydrogen on a large scale for #energy or #industry might affect the #climate. As NEVERMORE, for its assessments HYDRA relies on WILIAM Model thanks to the participation in its consortium of NEVERMORE partners, namely the University of Valladolid and CARTIF. 🔍 On November 6th, the Norrbotten Local Council gathered to discuss the digital tools developed so far within the NEVERMORE Project. 💡⚙️ These innovative tools are designed to simulate the impact of #climateactions on the #environment, #socialfactors and the #economy, providing support to decision-makers. In particular, the discussion focused on nature-based solutions in Norrbotten, Sweden, gaining valuable insights from the participants on how the tools should be designed and which actions the project should prioritise in upcoming tool developments. The Norbotten Local Council is one of the five Local Councils established within NEVERMORE, which serve as a meeting point and dialogue between the project and society. 👥 Last week, project partner Fondazione Bruno Kessler - FBK presented NEVERMORE at the World Usability Day (WUD) 2024, which took place on 14 November at the Politecnico di Milano, Italy. During the ‘Collective action and plans for the future: how Sustainable HCI can help address #climatechange’ talk, Eleonora Mencarini, from Fondazione Bruno Kessler, introduced NEVERMORE as an example of #participatorymodelling. Participatory modelling consists of involving stakeholders in the process of creating a model in order to gain local perspectives and concerns, add missing data and clarify the impacts of specific solutions on specific problems. 💡🤝 In this regard, NEVERMORE established five Local and a Transnational Stakeholder Councils to leverage social innovation frameworks, participatory processes and co-design techniques. Biodiversity COP l  21 October - 1 November 2024🌿🌾 While #COP29 started this week, the 16thConference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (COP16) ended on November 1, 2024. The UN Biodiversity Conference was the first milestone since the historic 2022 Kunming-Montréal Global Biodiversity Framework Agreement, when 196 countries agreed on a roadmap to halt and reverse nature loss by 2030. 🌍🔥 #Climatechange, #biodiversityloss, #landdegradation, #desertification and #pollution are all independent factors aggravating existing challenges to #sustainability and #resilience. 🌍 The 29th UN Climate Change Conference (COP29) will start next week, on 11 November, and last until 22 November. The Conference will be held in Baku, Azerbaijan, and it will bring parties together to accelerate actions towards the #ParisAgreement’s 1.5°C target and the UN Framework Convention on #ClimateChange. The main focus will be on securing the significant financial investments needed to reduce emissions and protect vulnerable populations. 🎯 NEVERMORE aims to develop integrated models and instruments to effectively support the design and analysis of #climatepolicies in the European Union and contribute to international efforts for a global uptake of #climateaction in line with the Paris Agreement and SDGs. In 2023, more than 90 million people worldwide were affected by natural #disasters and #hazards due to climate change. In this regard, the Copernicus Emergency Management Service (CEMS) plays a pivotal role in conducting effective early warnings, monitoring efforts and emergency response tools. Today, project partner Fondazione Bruno Kessler - FBK will present #NEVERMOREproject at “Città nelle Alpi” 2004-2024-2044 Congress in Vezzano, Italy. 🏔️ During the two-day event (25-26 October), the relationship between #city and #mountain will be addressed. The event is relevant for NEVERMORE, since one of our case studies is the Trentino region, which represents the #mountainousregion as a #climatechange hotspot. Trentino represents one of the mountain regions most sensitive to climate change in the southern Alps. 📢 On 11 October, the European Commission hosted a roundtable on how to manage #climaterisks and damages. 👥 For the occasion, high-level representatives, national and local authorities, civil society, financiers, insurers, farmers, business, research and media gathered to discuss #structuralchanges, actionable tools and financing for the future. 📢 New ‘Europe’s state of water 2024: the need for improved water resilience’ report by the European Environment Agency. 📗 According to the report, #climatechange, #pollution, #habitatdegradation and the overuse of freshwater resources are putting pressure on water resources and management, posing serious challenges to #watersecurity. The study identifies three main challenges for future water management in Europe:  1. Protecting and restoring aquatic ecosystems; 2. Achieving the zero pollution ambition; 3. Adapting to water scarcity, #drought and #flood risks. 💧🌿 The report is interesting for #NEVERMOREproject, especially for the Sitia and Murcia Case Studies.
