Ninepointfive #Tidal successfully hosted its first #Tidal–RT (Round Table) to discuss the innovation challenges and investment opportunities in #Maritime, #Offshore and #Ports. The #Tidal–RT was honoured to welcome more than 20 leading voices from corporate investors and innovation managers to openly discuss on: ⚓ What are the industry’s most pressing challenges? 🤝 How can we organise corporate-startup collaboration? 💸 How to finance these startups? What will be the winning maritime fuel in 2050? No clear winner there, unfortunately 😉 . But we did very much align on other topics: - support and education on (operational) requirements and industry standards by industry players, is key for adoption and translating tech into practice - sharing results among industry peers pushes market adoption and tech roll-out - claiming a venture by a corporate and even the perception of that, can kill the venture and the tech - we will need to go beyond local borders to back European winners with bold bets and industry coordination, to strengthen the industry for global competition. - backing a winner also means letting go of your other 'bets' - before launching a pilot, do align on expectations for specs and timing in a corporate-startup collaboration - ... Thanks to Buccaneer Delft and Kirsten Ruiter for the great location and the warm welcome. Thanks to all our partners for the input and dialogue. Looking forward to the next #Tidal–RT! Our resolution is to leave a legacy that lasts and secures a sustainable future for the Maritime, Offshore and Ports industry. - Together we can do this better than anyone alone. - Corine Franken, Bart Huybrechts, Kristie Dekkers, Bart Houben, Nicklas Viby Fursund, Rene Raaijmakers

Advocating for European shipbuilding & maritime manufacturing 🌊🚢 | Advancing Europe's industrial future ✨🏭 | Sharing insights on EU policy 🇪🇺🏛
📰 Missed the latest EU plans for the maritime sector? No worries—here is your quick catch-up! 🔎 The EU is raising its maritime game with bold ambitions starting this year. Below is what is in the pipeline, straight from the 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐞𝐭𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐚𝐬𝐬, the Commission’s roadmap for its new mandate: ✅️ A "new strategy that will highlight the role that European 𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐦𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐦𝐞 𝐢𝐧𝐝𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐲 will play in the future EU economy." Specifically, the mission letter to the responsible Commissioner refers to: 🔹️ "A new 𝐢𝐧𝐝𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐦𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐦𝐞 𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐠𝐲 to enhance the competitiveness, sustainability and resilience of Europe’s maritime manufacturing sector." 🚢 🔹️ A 𝐏𝐨𝐫𝐭 𝐒𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐠𝐲 focussing notably "on security and competitiveness". ⚓️ ✅️ A 𝐄𝐮𝐫𝐨𝐩𝐞𝐚𝐧 𝐎𝐜𝐞𝐚𝐧𝐬 𝐏𝐚𝐜𝐭 that will "allow Europe to leverage its vast maritime area and coastline to boost innovation through new blue technologies, clean energy production and food security." 🌊 ✅️ A 𝐒𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐬𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭 𝐈𝐧𝐯𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐏𝐥𝐚𝐧 with "measures to de-risk investment needed to swiftly ramp up charging infrastructure and the production and distribution of renewable and low-carbon transport fuels." While this plan covers all transport sectors, the maritime sector is expected to play a central role. 🛳 Additionally, the 𝐂𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐧 𝐈𝐧𝐝𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐃𝐞𝐚𝐥—the Commission's strategic blueprint for turning decarbonisation into competitive business opportunities for European industries—may also include key policies relevant to the maritime sector: 🏭 An 𝐈𝐧𝐝𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐃𝐞𝐜𝐚𝐫𝐛𝐨𝐧𝐢𝐬𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐀𝐜𝐜𝐞𝐥𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐨𝐫 𝐀𝐜𝐭 to "extend accelerated permitting to more (e.g. energy intensive) sectors in transition." 💰 A 𝐄𝐮𝐫𝐨𝐩𝐞𝐚𝐧 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐞𝐭𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐅𝐮𝐧𝐝 establishing "an investment capacity that will support strategic technologies and manufacturing (from AI to space, from clean tech to bio-tech sectors etc.), which are critical to European competitiveness, including research and innovation". 💡 A 𝐄𝐮𝐫𝐨𝐩𝐞𝐚𝐧 𝐈𝐧𝐧𝐨𝐯𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐀𝐜𝐭 to "promote the access of innovative companies to European research and technology infrastructures, intellectual assets generated by publicly funded R&I in view of increasing patenting, and regulatory sandboxes allowing innovators to develop and test new ideas." ♻️ A 𝐂𝐢𝐫𝐜𝐮𝐥𝐚𝐫 𝐄𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐨𝐦𝐲 𝐀𝐜𝐭 to "catalyse investment in recycling capacity and encourage EU industry to effectively substitute virgin materials and to reduce the landfilling and incineration of used raw materials." The ambition is clear. Now, it’s time for real action—and serious funding! ✨️ #Maritime #EuropeanUnion #Competitiveness #Oceans SEA Europe (Shipyards' & Maritime Equipment Association of Europe)

The Ninepointfive #Tidal fund now part of the Maritime Battery Forum. Logic choice as #Electrification and #Storage are key topics of the fund's investment strategy. Looking forward to joining the community and adding our perspective on investing in technology and innovation together with the leaders of the #Maritime, #Ports and #Offshore sector. Grateful that we get the opportunity to do so when speaking at #WATTSUP on March the 5th and 6th in Sweden Thanks Syb Ten Cate Hoedemaker!
Exciting news! Ninepointfive Tidal, Energy Transition Investment Fund has joined our global community of Maritime Battery Enablers! Ninepointfive Tidal invests in startups (hardware, software technologies or innovative business models) that contribute to the energy transition in the maritime, ports and offshore sector. Electrification of the maritime sector is core to their investment topic and ranges from where the energy is created (offshore green energy) over how it is transformed and/or stored (electrolysers and batteries) to how it is deployed (hybrid and electric propulsion). With several Start-Ups in the electrification and green energy sector in their pipeline, Ninepointfive Tidal contributes to making one of Europe’s most crucial sectors future-proof and ready to transition. It was a great pleasure to be one of the speakers yesterday at the Buccaneer Delft Industry Exclusive. The setting was great, with perfect Triple Helix conditions, featuring representatives from industry, government, start-ups, sector associations, and financiers from the offshore and maritime sector. Thanks to our great hosts, Joop Roodenburg and Kirsten Ruiter. We had an inspiring panel discussion with Chantal Schrijver (Head of the European Investment Bank (EIB) Netherlands) and Emma Houterman (CFO of SolarDuck), following an insightful conversation between Rinke Zonneveld (CEO of Invest-NL) and host Kirsten Ruiter (Managing Director of Buccaneer). It was great to share experiences and insights on the opportunities and challenges of financing disruptive technologies in the sector. One of the challenges identified for start-ups to scale is market adaptation and the need for industry-specific investors. Conclusion: Collaboration is key—or as Rinke put it, “It takes an ecosystem to raise a venture.” It was valuable to share perspectives with key industry players in our journey of setting up our industry-backed venture capital initiative, Ninepointfive Tidal.
