    We’ve just concluded our steering committee meeting at Paris Aéroport - Charles de Gaulle (CDG). A heartfelt thank you to Groupe ADP for the seamless organisation, and to Virginie Pasquier and Yannael Billard for their exceptional coordination. A special thanks to our insightful speakers: Delia Dimitriu, Patrick Monroy, Marin Tica, Irina Stipanović, Alena Maximova, Rémy Delabeye, Laurine Feinberg, Dave Raper, Giorgio Medici, and Matteo Giampaolo.     SEA Milan Airports presented their H2 Production and Distribution Facility, developed as part of the OLGA project, at the 2nd Hydrogen Airports Conference in Turin.     ♻️ OLGA’s Breakthrough in Sustainability: Introducing Airport Equipment Reuse (Decommissioning and Upcycling) 🌟 OLGA is leading the way in revolutionising airport equipment management with our innovative Airport Equipment Reuse platform developed by Groupe ADP. This initiative focuses on sustainable and economically beneficial approaches for managing airside and landside equipment, setting new standards in equipment reuse and upcycling. 🔍 Objectives: -Enhance Lifecycle Management: Improve the decommissioning and upcycling practices for airport equipment. -Create a Marketplace for Reuse: Launch the first global marketplace for second-hand airport equipment, offering certified and functional items online and on-demand. -Benchmark and Develop Models: Compare reuse practices with other industries, develop a financial model, and design efficient processes for equipment reuse. -Promote Sustainability and Economic Value: Generate economic value, support sustainability, and create job opportunities by leveraging unexploited assets. 🔧 Progress: -Marketplace Development: The AirportMarket platform is evolving with online payment options, an integrated supply chain, and enhanced sales and operations planning (S&OP) features. -Quality Assurance: Equipment listed on the marketplace is reconditioned by the original manufacturer and certified by APAVE, ensuring top-quality standards. -Expansion and Recognition: The program is growing its global vendor network and has received several awards for its sustainable approach, including recognitions in France (2022) and Saudi Arabia (2023). 📊 Key Figures: -Marketplace Integration: As of June 2024, 180 airports are integrated into the AirportMarket platform. -Circular Economy Impact: The initiative has achieved a 50% reduction in CO2 emissions for vendors and buyers, contributing to the reduction of thousands of tons of CO2 in 2023.     🌍 OLGA’s Mission for better Air quality: Unveiling the Air Quality Source Apportionment Study 🌱 At Paris Aéroport - Charles de Gaulle (CDG), OLGA is leading the way in understanding and improving urban air quality, thanks to Groupe ADP, the French Civil Aviation Authority (DGAC) and Addair. The Air Quality Source Apportionment Study is a groundbreaking effort to identify emission sources and assess how sustainable practices can enhance the air we breathe. 🔍 Objectives: -Identify Emission Sources: Pinpoint where emissions are coming from—aircraft, road traffic, energy production, or ground support equipment. -Monitor Pollutants: Real-time tracking of NOx, PM10, PM2.5, VOCs, ultrafine particles (UFP), and black carbon (BC). -Evaluate Environmental Initiatives: Study the impact of Sustainable Aviation Fuels (SAF) and the greening of runway equipment. -Enhance Scientific Knowledge: Provide valuable data to better understand the impact of aviation on urban air quality. 🔧 Progress: -Measurement Campaigns: Three of the planned six to eight campaigns have been completed at CDG, with a fourth set for summer 2024. -Data Collection and Analysis: Using advanced statistical methods, we’re analyzing real-time data from two continuous air quality monitoring sites. -Insights: Initial findings highlight key contributors to airport emissions and the potential benefits of reducing auxiliary power unit (APU) usage. 📊 Key Figures: -Campaigns: 6 to 8 three-month campaigns planned, with 3 already completed. -Measurement Sites: 2 air quality monitoring sites at CDG. -Pollutants Monitored: NOx, PM10, PM2.5, VOCs, UFP, and BC. -Preliminary Results: Early results suggest significant air quality improvements through reduced APU usage. -Energy Savings: Greening runway equipment is expected to further reduce emissions and enhance energy efficiency. This innovative approach, led by Groupe ADP, is transforming how aircraft stands are lit, significantly cutting down energy consumption while ensuring that safety and regulatory standards are met. 🔍 Objectives: -Energy Savings: Optimise lighting based on aircraft presence, reducing energy consumption with dynamic controls. -Enhanced Safety and Security: Maintain necessary lighting levels to ensure safety for passengers, operators, and aircraft. -Best Practices Development: Create a 'Guide of Apron Lighting' to share energy-efficient lighting strategies with other airports. 🔧 Progress: The project has made significant strides: -LED Transition: The switch from High-Pressure Sodium to LED lighting has been completed, resulting in a 40% reduction in energy consumption. -Benchmarking: A thorough comparison of sensor technologies and tower data across European airports has been conducted. -Experimentation: Ongoing tests of dynamic lighting controls have shown even more potential for energy savings. -Guide of Apron Lighting: A comprehensive guide is being developed, with plans to share it with other airports, including Zagreb and Cluj. 📊 Key Figures: -Initial Energy Savings: 40% reduction achieved with LED lighting. -Additional Savings: Dynamic controls are expected to save an additional 10%. -Carbon Impact Analysis: Ongoing, with results expected by September 2024.     🌿 Monitoring Biodiversity at Airports: Introducing OLGA’s BiodiversIT Tool! 🦉 OLGA is leading the way in sustainable airport management with the BiodiversIT tool—a state-of-the-art system designed to monitor and enhance biodiversity at airports. This tool has been developed by Groupe ADP, the French Civil Aviation Authority (DGAC) and Université Paris-Est Créteil (UPEC). By leveraging advanced sensors, AI algorithms, and data analytics, BiodiversIT ensures that airports like Paris Aéroport - Charles de Gaulle (CDG) can protect local ecosystems while maintaining high safety standards. 🔍 Objectives: -Consolidate and Enhance Data Management: Integrate biodiversity data from local observations and open databases to improve tracking, mapping, and knowledge sharing. -Advance Monitoring Technologies: Use cutting-edge sensors and AI to monitor high-stakes species efficiently. -Manage Species Diversity: Address both desirable species and invasive exotic species to maintain balanced biodiversity. -Ensure Aeronautical Safety: Focus on managing plant species that attract birds to ensure safe airport operations. 🔧 Progress: Three proof-of-concept (POC) trials have been conducted using various detection tools, including drones and onboard cameras. These trials focused on developing image labeling tools, refining algorithms, and standardising data.     🚛 Driving Sustainability: OLGA’s Biodiesel-Powered Heavy-Duty Vehicles! 🌿 As part of OLGA’s commitment to reducing the environmental impact of airport operations, we’re experimenting with OLEO100 biodiesel—a 100% rapeseed-based biofuel. This initiative led by Groupe ADP aims to power heavy-duty vehicles at Paris Aéroport - Charles de Gaulle (CDG) sustainably, demonstrating that innovation and green energy can work hand in hand for a cleaner future. 🔍 Objectives: -Reducing Greenhouse Gas Emissions: Lower the carbon footprint of airport operations by switching to biodiesel. -Improving Air Quality: Reduce pollutants to enhance air quality around the airport. -Providing a Sustainable Alternative: Offer a viable and ecological substitute to fossil fuels without compromising vehicle performance. 🔧 Progress: Essential vehicles, such as sweepers and degreasers, have been selected for the OLEO100 biodiesel trial due to their intensive use in airport operations. The experiment showed that these vehicles operated effectively on biodiesel without significant modifications, maintaining comparable performance to traditional diesel-powered machines.     ✈️ Driving Greener Ground Operations: Meet OLGA’s TaxiBot! 🌱 OLGA is pioneering a more sustainable way to taxi aircraft with the innovative TaxiBot – an initiative of Groupe ADP, Air France and Smart Airport Systems (SAS). This vehicle is designed to tow airplanes from the boarding gate to the take-off runway (or nearby) without using their main engines, significantly reducing CO2 emissions, fuel consumption, and noise pollution. It’s a game-changer for greener and more efficient airport operations. 🔍 Objectives: -Environmental Benefits: Reduce CO2 and NOx emissions by enabling engine-off taxiing, helping to decrease air pollution and climate change. Additionally, the TaxiBot will reduce noise pollution, benefiting both airport workers and nearby communities.  -Economic Benefits: Save on fuel costs, reduce engine wear and tear, and lower maintenance expenses by minimising engine operating time during taxiing. 🔧 Progress: The TaxiBot pilot test was conducted from November 2023 to February 2024 with four modified Airbus A320 aircraft. During this phase, the TaxiBot was used exclusively for departure operations, successfully completing 38 missions.
