A development & humanitarian organization advancing children's rights & equality for girls in more than 80 countries 🌍.
About us
Plan International Belgium is a development and humanitarian organisation that defends equality for girls in order to seek a better future for all children. We strive for a just world, working together with children, young people, our supporters and partners. We see clear links between fulfilling children’s rights, achieving gender equality and ending child poverty. Every girl and boy has the right to be healthy, educated, protected, valued and respected in their own community and beyond. We support these rights from when children are born to when they reach adulthood. We work to ensure that girls and boys know their rights, and have the skills, knowledge and confidence to fulfil them. This approach inspires and empowers children and communities to create long-lasting change. ✅ Until every girl is free. 𝗧𝗵𝗿𝗲𝗲 𝘆𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝘄𝗮𝗿 𝗶𝗻 𝗨𝗸𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗲: 𝗮 𝗹𝗼𝘀𝘁 𝗳𝘂𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗺𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗿𝗲𝗻? As the war in Ukraine enters its fourth year, an entire generation of children is at risk of falling behind. Years of bombings, school closures, and constant threats have left many with learning delays and severe mental health challenges. 🔹 4.6 million children face obstacles that make it difficult for them to attend school. 🔹 More than 365 schools are destroyed, thousands more damaged. 🔹 1 in 5 young people (aged 15-24) has already missed up to two years of education. Education is more than just learning to read and write. It provides stability, social development, and hope for the future. Without urgent action, these children may suffer lasting consequences. Together with our partners, we are working to create safe learning spaces, psychological support, and catch-up classes. Because even in times of war, education can change lives. 🎥 Aftermovie: Children’s Rights at a Crossroads The world is a dire place for children today. With 120 conflicts raging worldwide and humanitarian crises impacting more children than ever, the consequences are devastating: 🔴 Almost half of all children live in countries at extreme risk of climate disasters 🔴 1 in 5 children are living in or fleeing from conflict zones 🔴 1 in 4 girls and women in fragile situations experience sexual violence before 18 🔴 More than 250 million young people struggle with mental health issues But there is HOPE. In November 2024, Plan International Belgium, SPF Affaires étrangères, Commerce extérieur et Coopération au Développement , and UNICEF Belgium brought together more than 200 experts and thought leaders - including Her Majesty the Queen of the Belgians - to tackle these urgent challenges and find solutions: ✅ Children must be involved in seeking solutions to climate change ✅ Children’s voices, especially girls’, must be heard in shaping policies and action ✅ Mental health support must be mainstreamed, in conflict and beyond ✅ Education for all children is key to peace and stability Watch the aftermovie below to see how we can turn the tide together. #ChildRightsConference2024 #ChildrensRights

🔬 On this International Day of Women and Girls in Science, we celebrate those who dare to dream big and break barriers of gender stereotypes. Meet Angelique Van Ombergen, Chief Exploration Scientist at European Space Agency - ESA. To us, and so many girls, she is a powerful example of how curiosity and perseverance can lead to careers in sciences and technology. At Plan International, we believe that every girl should have the freedom to explore, discover and choose her own path. #WomenInScience #IDWGS #RepresentationMatters #UntilEveryGirlIsFree

Humanitarian aid delivered in Gaza Our colleagues at Plan International Egypt have succeeded in getting the first 5 aid trucks into Gaza. They are bringing 846 essential relief kits with critical food and hygiene supplies to around 546 families, with a special focus on the most vulnerable people, including people with disabilities. This achievement reflects our commitment to supporting girls living in a crisis and ensuring no one is left behind. We are very grateful to all our donors, as well as our partners, ADRA and ActionAid, who made this possible. Together, we can continue to make a difference. Let’s keep on supporting girls in crisis together. 💙 #HumanitarianAid #Gaza #UntilEveryGirlIsFree

Lowering the tax deduction for donations is a bad idea. The "gain" for the government budget does not outweigh the negative impact on NGOs and their humanitarian work. Our national director, along with 160 others, signed the call to the negotiating parties. 🔗 Link to the article: https://lnkd.in/eQ9WJD25
