The Equal Access Principles is an initiative to encourage more openness in public fisheries management globally, by calling for the adoption of access rules that level the playing field. This would be in terms of being able to influence fisheries management decisions and understand or challenge the logic behind them. Click below to read the Atuna Media article 👇 #Fisheries #RFMO

Transparency. Without it, there's no sustainability. Yet the world's Regional Fisheries Management Organizations try to claim their catches are sustainable - without giving stakeholders equal access to their discussions, or to the facts about what's really going on. The Equal Access Principles aim to level that playing field. To give all stakeholders a seat at the table and visibility of the facts. They're a key step towards real sustainability. What does it take to abolish a culture of secrecy? As this piece on SeafoodSource explains ⬇️, collaboration is key to making change happen. With Regional Fisheries Management Organisations (RFMOs) set to take on a larger role in ocean governance, it's more important than ever that the system's culture is replaced with one of openness and accountability. At the moment, many RFMO decisions - which have far reaching consequences for people, businesses, and communities - are made behind closed doors, making it difficult to track who is blocking progress towards sustainability. Find out more about why this is such an urgent issue - and how you can help transform this culture by supporting the Equal Access Principles. #RFMOs #transparency #fisheriesmanagement https://lnkd.in/gxZEPYkH

Steven Adolf Happy World Tuna Day 2024, straight from Barbate, the global capital of the bluefin tuna! We can again safely eat fresh bluefin during the tuna yearly festival during the catch season in the Street of Gibraltar, thanks to sustainable management. Good fisheries management can work, even with a complicated species like the bft! An incentive to apply harvest strategies for all tuna stocks!

Great news for the oceans. This afternoon the European Parliament approved with an overwhelming majority the EU ratification of the High Seas Treaty! An important step forward towards keeping our seas healthy. https://lnkd.in/dAi-Wy2Q
If we want our seafood supply chains to be sustainable, we need open ocean governance. Decisions made in secret hurt us all, and they create a black hole around our ability to assess the sustainability of any given catch. The Equal Access Principles exist to help bring about the transparency we need to deliver the sustainability consumers demand. Find out more - and become an endorser today ➡️ https://principles.fish/
The future of our oceans depends upon a fisheries management system that has its best interests at heart - and not just those of industrial fishers. Retailers, processors, and other stakeholders need equal access to the discussions of the Regional Fisheries Management Organizations, the bodies that call the shots when it comes to crucial fisheries decisions around the globe. Find out more about how the Equal Access Principles can help make that happen - and become an endorser today ➡️ https://principles.fish/ #RFMOs #governance #Oceans

Has the Marine Stewardship Council reached the limits of transparent and inclusive management of fishery stocks? Read my blog on the recent postponement of a number of announced measures around the new Standard 3.0 and harvest strategies. MSC is treading on dangerous ground for its credibility. That can never be the intention of a certification that claims to advance the proper introduction of harvest strategies. It’s a good moment to reconsider. https://lnkd.in/dWaAN2DA
