LEGACY | An exceptional 317-year-old violin – which has served generations of musicians over the centuries – is entrusted to the Music Chapel now and will accompany future generations of talented young musicians! Prize winner at the Queen Elisabeth Competition in 1963, Violin Master Charles Castleman has always kept a special bond with Belgium and the Music Chapel. Today, Charlie and the Music Chapel announced the donation of his 1707 “Castleman, ex-Marquis de Champeaux” Stradivarius violin. Dating from the golden period of the celebrated Italian violinmaker, the instrument will be entrusted immediately to the Queen Elisabeth Music Chapel. The violinist Miclen LaiPang, a former student of Castleman and member of the Trio Zadig – Associate Artist at the Music Chapel – will play the “Charles Castleman” Stradivarius until the end of 2027. From 2028 onwards, the instrument will be made available to Artists in residence at the Music Chapel. The transmission of musical excellence is at the heart of the Music Chapel’s mission. All the Music Chapel teams have experienced an intense week, highlighted by an unforgettable concert by the Trio Zadig and an open masterclass by Charles Castleman. Thank you all, and especially to Myriad USA, the American entity of the Fondation Roi Baudouin, for making the whole story possible and, of course, to Charles Castleman for making this fairytale a reality! 📷 Mégane F - Photography & Virginie Nguyen
