"I must say that I'm shocked by what I'm seeing, the needs are beyond belief" These are words of Inger Ashing, Save the Children International's CEO who has just been in Gaza visiting our lifesaving programmes and humanitarian work. Thousands of children in Gaza are facing malnutrition and disease, whilst living in unsafe makeshift tents after 15 months of conflict, with the amount of aid available nowhere near enough to meet the enormous needs. Our teams are working round the clock: 🔴Delivering lifesaving aid, such as food, water and essential hygiene supplies to families. 🔴Managing cases of at-risk children, providing protection and connecting them with the support they need to stay safe. 🔴Giving cash to families to help them meet their needs. 🔴Creating child-friendly spaces and learning centres to help children recover and continue their education. But we cannot do it alone. The international community must step up and do more to respond to the urgent needs. The children in Gaza need you more than ever. If you are able to, please donate now to support children living in crises around the world👉 https://lnkd.in/gcEAXfe6

Rising inequalities. Escalating conflicts. A worsening climate emergency. Children are bearing the brunt of today’s crises. Their needs have never been greater, yet their rights remain neglected and underfunded. As the world’s largest provider of Official Development Assistance (ODA), the EU has a responsibility to act. With negotiations for the next EU long-term budget fast approaching, the EU must step up and reaffirm its role as a global leader in international cooperation. Together with CONCORD, Save the Children calls on the European Union to keep a separate development cooperation instrument. Why? Because it: ✅ Fights global poverty – every child deserves a fair start. ✅ Ensures predictable, transparent funding – life-saving programs can’t wait. ✅ Strengthens the EU’s global leadership – a reliable partner in times of crisis. A safe internet shouldn’t be a privilege. But right now, it is. Research from the Young & Resilient Research Centre at Western Sydney University and Save the Children, conducted across seven countries—including Finland in Europe, shows that children from low-income families are 35% less likely to block inappropriate or unwanted contacts online. This means they are more exposed to harmful content, online predators, and cyberbullying—simply because they don’t have the same support or digital skills as their peers. The internet is part of children’s everyday lives. It’s where they learn, connect, and express themselves. But without the right safeguards, it can also be where they experience harm. On #SaferInternetDay, we’re calling on the EU to take action so that protection isn’t left to chance. Every child, no matter their background, deserves to be safe online. In Goma, DRC, children are running for their lives—often with nowhere to run. Our colleague Barbara Kráľovičová shares the testimony of Elias, a Save the Children staff member who was in Goma during the latest strikes. The escalation of violence in the Democratic Republic of Congo has turned Goma into a living nightmare for children: Over 200,000 children have been impacted by the conflict. Bombs are striking displacement camps, hospitals, and homes. Families are fleeing again and again, but there’s no safe place to go. As Save the Children works on the ground to provide life-saving aid, the situation is growing more desperate by the day. Children like Julienne cannot wait. To the European Union, European Commission, European Parliament, and the international community: the time to act is now. ✔️ Protect children and civilians. ✔️ Ensure humanitarian aid reaches those in need. ✔️ Prioritise peace and stability in the DRC.

16.7 million people in need. Millions of children displaced. Syria's humanitarian situation demands urgent action, and the EU has a pivotal role to play. At the European Parliament's Development Committee meeting with Barry Andrews MEP EU in Emergencies and fellow NGOs, Save the Children’s Syria Advocacy, Media and Communications Director, Misty Buswell, shared actionable recommendations to ensure Syrian children have a bright future and an opportunity to learn, grow and thrive: 1️⃣ Increase EU funding to address urgent education, protection, and healthcare needs. 2️⃣ Ensure safe, voluntary returns for displaced families. 3️⃣ Prioritise repatriation and support for children in camps. "My colleagues and I have witnessed the resilience of Syrian children time and again. An 11-year-old Osama from North Syria dreams of becoming an architect to help rebuild his country so families can return home. Syria’s children, like Osama, have endured far too much. But he is a reminder of what is possible when we invest in children. For every Osama, there are thousands more in Syria waiting for their chance to build a better future. The international community must seize this moment to begin a new chapter for Syria — one of hope, opportunity, and dignity."

This #InternationalDayofEducation, we celebrate the power of learning. 13-year-old Adiaratou (pictured left) from Mali is a shining example of how education can transform lives. Despite living in a country impacted by conflict, climate crisis and school closures, she’s dreaming big—of becoming a teacher for her village! Thanks to the education she received through our PRESU SAHEL program, Adiaratou has regained confidence and looks to the future with optimism. Since 2023, with support from the EU, PRESU SAHEL has provided education, protection and mental health support to 100,000+ children like Adiaratou in the Central #Sahel. And we are determined to reach even more! Education is essential for children’s development, future and wellbeing. This #InternationalDayofEducation, let’s remember: investing in children’s learning is investing in a better world. Thank you, EU in Emergencies, for empowering children like Adiaratou to dream, learn, and thrive ❤️

At a pivotal moment for global health, we’re proud to share this advocacy brief created in collaboration with UNICEF highlighting why fully funding Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance is crucial for ensuring every child can survive and thrive. ❤️ Why this matters: Vaccines are among the most powerful tools to protect children, especially in fragile and conflict-affected settings. Yet, the pandemic has reversed progress, leaving millions of children unvaccinated and widening inequities. The numbers speak volumes: 👉Every $1 invested in Gavi generates $54 in societal benefits. 👉Since 2000, Gavi has helped vaccinate over 1 billion children. So, investing in Gavi, isn’t just a moral imperative—it’s a smart economic choice and strengthens the foundation for a healthier, more equitable world. Vaccine equity isn't just a goal—it’s a shared responsibility and a commitment to humanity. This brief also includes an overview of Save the Children’s Global Immunization Footprint and Reach which highlights our role in delivering vaccines to the most vulnerable children, often in collaboration with Gavi to fulfil our mission of ensuring no child is left behind. 📖 Read the full brief ➡️ https://lnkd.in/eUh_AJQT #GlobalHealth #HealthEquity #ForOurFuture

We welcome with relief the agreement that has finally been reached by the Government of Israel and Hamas on a pause in hostilities in Gaza. For 15 months, about one million children in #Gaza have been caught in a living nightmare with loss, trauma and risks to their lives at every turn💔 This pause will stop the daily attacks and bring children vital reprieve from the bombs and bullets that have stalked them for more than a year. It will also facilitate the release of Israeli hostages, including children, and Palestinian children held in Israeli military detention. But this pause is not enough - the race is on to save children facing hunger and disease as the shadow of famine looms. The pause must be permanent, and efforts urgently ramped up to end the siege and vastly increase the entry of aid. This is the only way to stop further suffering and deaths.
